Note[]
- This was the first ToC in the Trebek era, as well as being the thirteenth ToC.
- This is the first ToC where the finals were not in order of semifinal scores.
- This is the first ToC where two of the three participants advance to the finals as wildcards.
- Paul Boymel is the first ToC participant to have challenged Final Jeopardy alone and to win one of his regular games as a co-champion.
- Paul Croshier is the first syndicated ToC participant to not play Final Jeopardy.
- This is the only ToC where the quarterfinal matchups were set in chronological order. Starting with the 1986 ToC, the quarterfinal matches would be more randomized.
- This was the first and only ToC in the Trebek era to have two people by their first name in a game standing together (Paul Boymel and Paul Croshier).
- This is the only Tournament of Champions where first and second runner-up receive their two-day finals total.
