- Eligibility lasted from May 22, 2000 to July 3, 2001 (Kevin Keach's last game. He was the 15th qualifier for the TOC, and therefore Alan Bailey and Mark Dawson, who competed in between July 3, 2001 and October 19, 2001 (the weekday before this TOC began) and won 5 games, were held over to the 2003 TOC.
- Last ToC before the clue values are doubled.
- Last ToC to use an analog score display on the lecterns.

- Rick Knusten is the last 5-time retired champion to have locked all of his 5 games going into Final Jeopardy.
- Brad Rutter, who won this ToC, went on an undefeated streak against humans for 20 years, having won Million Dollar Masters, UToC, Battle of the Decades, and the All-Star Games (where he split the top prize with teammates David Madden and Larissa Kelly).
- His first defeat to a human opponent occurred in 2020, when he lost to Ken Jennings in GOAT.
- All the 2001 ToC participants (except for Ryan Moore) would appear again in the 2005 UToC.
