Notes[]
- Eligibility lasted from April 10, 2024 (Lucas Partridge's fourth game) to December 6, 2024.
- This is the first Tournament of Champions to have a tie for last place in the finals. As per the official Jeopardy! website, Isaac was the 1st runner-up and Adriana was the 2nd.
- The tiebreaker, seemingly, was the scores across all winning matches.
- Celebrity Jeopardy! champion Lisa Ann Walter was supposed to compete in this ToC, but due to Abbott Elementary taping the same week as the ToC, she deferred her appearance to the next ToC in 2026. Drew Goins, the first runner-up in the Champions Wildcard, took her place.
- This is the third ToC participant who postponed their chance to participate in ToC until next year, after Vinita Kailasanath and Joey Beachum.
- Just like in 2022, the top three seeded champions are automatic semifinalists.
- Adriana Harmeyer is the third female (the 2 other were Larissa Kelly and Julia Collins), to be become the biggest winner of the Season.
- Basile is the first Survivor contestant to be in the ToC.
- At the age of 19, Rishabh Wuppalapati is the youngest champion from the regular-season to qualify for the ToC, alongside Kevin Marshall in 2006.
- Rishabh is the first person to qualify for a ToC in regular-season, that was not alive during Ken Jennings’ original run. The first one outright was Justin Bolsen, from the previous ToC in 2024.
- At the age of 74, David Erb is the oldest person to ever qualify for the ToC.
- This is the first ToC to use the 2024-present set.
- This is the first ToC in the Jennings era to have two people by their first name in a game standing together (Drew Basile and Drew Goins).
- Basile and Goins went by their surnames to not confuse the fans and host Ken Jennings.
- In this ToC, 11 people have competed together in a regular game before:
- Amy → Weckiai
- Gross → Stewart → Grant
- Adriana → Basile
- David and Goins
- Ryan → Mark
- With Neilesh's win, he became the third champion in history to win the ToC in a row with four or fewer wins. He also became the lowest prize winner in regular-season play among all ToC winners.
Evalution[]
Since Amy won the 2022 ToC, there have been cases where champions with less than 5 consecutive wins in the endemic system are winning 4 consecutive wins in large competitions. Starting with Yogesh, Victoria, and even Neilesh, many are of the opinion that the Warring States period has actually arrived.
In fact, there have been many cases before that where someone with a small winning streak beat someone with a long winning streak, but before Amy's win, there were not many cases where a champion with 3 or 4 consecutive wins advanced to the finals, and there were many cases where the runner-up was the best.
Then, after Amy, the number of cases of super champions being defeated by a landslide is increasing, and even James is also being defeated by Victoria and Yogesh. In fact, this is not surprising because, just as there are many cases where even the most talented players fail to achieve consecutive wins in various factors such as DD or FJ, there are many cases where they build up their skills again during the gap and achieve good results.
Also, the change from a 2-day system to a first-to-win system is a big change. In the past, if a lot of points were accumulated in the first half, there was no chance of a reversal, so there were many cases of one-sided matches, but with the change to a single-day system, there were many opportunities to make up for it, and it turned into an exciting match.
In any case, we can see that after 2024, it has become impossible to predict who will win, and it has become difficult to guarantee the championship simply by the number of consecutive wins.
