America's Funniest Home Videos is an American comedy and clip show. The show is also abbreviated as AFV since 1998.
Premise[]
As implied by the title, each episode features mostly unintentionally funny home videos that are submitted to the show. Examples of these videos include those of slapstick physical comedy arising from incidents, accidents, or mishaps. Other examples are those of humorous situations involving pets or children.
Intentionally funny videos are shown as well, such as those of staged practical jokes and production videos. The latter are shown mostly in the Saget era.
At the end of each episode, a contest for the funniest home video of the episode is held between three recently submitted videos nominated by the producers, with the submitters of those videos in the studio audience. After all three videos are shown, the studio audience members vote for the one they believe is the funniest.
The submitters are awarded prize money (USD) depending on the amount of votes their videos receive:

After every half (third in Seasons 2-8, 10, and 15-23) of the season, a contest is held between the first place-winning videos of previous episodes in a dedicated episode. In the contest, the submitter(s) of the winning video is/are awarded $100,000. Beginning in Season 15, the $100,000-winning videos then compete for a grand prize in the season finale.

Inventor[]
This show was invented by Vin di Bona and is inspired by the Japanese show Fun TV with Kato-chan and Ken-Chan.
Trivia[]
- In Bob Saget's $100,000 AFV shows, balloons were dropped on the winners after they were announced. Ever since Daisy Fuentes and John Fugelsang took over, confetti and streamers were used instead of the balloons for the $100,000 shows. They still use confetti and streamers today.
- Bob Saget was also most famous for being a cast member on the sitcoms Full House and Fuller House. In fact, some of his fellow cast members have made special guest appearances on AFHV.
- Tom Bergeron is also famous for hosting Hollywood Squares from 1998 to 2004.
- Alfonso Ribiero is famous for being Carlton on Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and for hosting Catch 21.
- The ska punk rendition of "The Funny Things You Do" used in Seasons 9-25 sounds similar to the 1997 song "The Impression That I Get" by the Mighty Mighty Bosstones.
