Robert Osbourne Denver (b. January 9, 1935 – d. September 2, 2005) was an American comedic actor, widely known for portraying Gilligan on the 1964-1967 television series Gilligan's Island and beatnik Maynard G. Krebs on the 1959–1963 series The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis.
Denver was a lifelong smoker, and as a result on September 2, 2005, he died from complications of throat cancer surgery. He is survived by his four children, all from previous marriages.
