End of Streak[]
He was defeated by Andy Tirrell on December 6, 2022. Unlike some of his past games, he found the first Daily Double instantly, while Andy stayed in the red for most of the round.
In Double Jeopardy, the Daily Doubles split in Andy’s favor, with Andy picking up $3,700 on his and Cris dropping $6,600 on his. Because of this, Cris entered Final Jeopardy with just a $700 lead over Andy.
The Final question was only answered correctly by Andy (What is The Tempest?), and Cris making the standard cover bet meant his run came to an end (What is The little mermaid). However, he is currently the top seed for the 2023 Tournament of Champions.
Andy is the 31st person since October 2004 to win a game after entering Double Jeopardy with a negative dollar amount[1]. As is typical with players who defeat super-champions, however, Andy would go on to lose his second game, and his loss sparked a carousel of one-day winners that ended with the debut of 3-day champ Sean McShane. Andy did return to Jeopardy!, however, finishing in second place in the Season 39 Champions Wildcard Tournament, and subsequently serving as the alternate for the 2024 Tournament of Champions.
Tournament of Champions[]
Because of his run, he was invited back to play in the 2024 Tournament of Champions. He was widely considered the favorite to win the entire tournament; however, in one of the most shocking upsets of all time, his quarterfinal essentially belonged entirely to Jared Watson, who converted all three Daily Doubles for a combined $15,200 and entered Final Jeopardy with $32,200 and a runaway over He and Ben Goldstein. with that, his career earnings total $754,286. Jared also lost to Ben Chan from semifinal, but showed great performance until the end.
