Duets was a short-lived reality singing competition show where four popular singers not only judge the competition but they are competing in it.

Premise[]

Clarkson, Thicke, Legend, and Nettles would travel across America to find two singers each who would serve as their duet partners for the show. Each week, the mentor and one of their two duet partners would perform live in front of a studio audience.

"The simple fact that I get to go out and find two people I believe in, sing with them every week and help them accomplish their dream is an amazing thing I can't wait to be a part of," stated Clarkson in a press release statement from ABC.

At the end of the competition, the winning singer would win a recording contract with Hollywood Records.

Contestants[]

Clarkson had already selected two possible singers to be her duet partners for the show named Jason Farol and Julianna Gutierrez. Clarkson had recently performed with the two singers live at a concert in San Diego where she and Farol performed "Poison & Wine" by Civil Wars, and she performed with Gutierrez singing "Georgia On My Mind".

Trivia[]

Lionel Richie was originally supposed to be one of the four mentors for this show. But due to scheduling conflicts, he bailed out in favor of John Legend. Six years later, Richie has now become a judge for the reboot of American Idol since 2018 as of which also airs on ABC as well.
