"Today, three officially engaged couples: (six spouses' names are individually given) will all compete for cash and a fabulous dream honeymoon on... Engaged to Be Married! Couples, take your places, while we all welcome the host and star of our show, Jim McKrell!"
Engaged to Be Married is an unsold variation on The Newlywed Game.
Gameplay[]
Three engaged couples try to match answers to questions, worth varying amounts of money.
At the start of the game, each couple is given $250, and one member of each couple is sent into a soundproof gazebo. The other three players are given a category, and Jim announces a category with three questions with a dollar amount attatched to them. The first category's questions are worth $30, $40 and $50, respectively, and they increase by $10 for each new category. The players then pick the question they wish to answer, and then the couples are reunited. If the couple's answers match, the question value is added to their score. If not, the question value is deducted from their score and added to a "Sweepstakes" jackpot which starts at $100.
The second round is played the same way, but with the players' roles reversed. Two categories are played in each round.
The Sweepstakes question is played for the jackpot. The couples are shown three possible answers to a question. A correct answer adds the jackpot amount to the couple's score, but a wrong answer incurs no penalty. The couple with the most money wins a special honeymoon vacation and participates in a Magic Moment organized by the show's staff.

Trivia[]
Shortly into 1984, Telepictures opted to shelve the pilot and not screen it at NATPE in order to focus on reviving Let's Make a Deal, though they kept Engaged on as a backup/insurance project in case Deal failed to do well in the ratings.
