GUTS (also known as Nickelodeon GUTS, and Global GUTS) is a half-hour action-sports game show that aired for four seasons on Nickelodeon from September 19, 1992 to December 10, 1995. Actor Mike O'Malley was the host, describing as a kids version of American Gladiators; Moira Quirk was the referee and Mike's co-host. The show was taped at Universal Studios Florida on Sound Stage 21, and featured the tagline "DO YOU HAVE IT?". The show was revived from September 15, 2008 to October 10, 2009 with a family edition on Nickelodeon entitled My Family's Got GUTS. Episodes were taped at Universal Studios Florida, where the original series originated.

Gameplay[]

Three players competed in four athletic events at the Extreme Arena for points. First place in each event was worth 300 points. Second place received 200 points, and third place earned 100 points. The day's players were dressed in three colors: blue, red, and purple. Some events were based on skills in popular sports, such as basketball, baseball, football and soccer. Others made use of a wave pool, and sometimes a racing track was used. During the show's run, more creative and ambitious events were invented, including a fabricated ski slope and the famous Peak to Peak. Each event was said to allow the contestants to live out some of their greatest sports fantasies in a competitive arena. The show was very similar to ABC's Wide World of Sports. In between the events, each episode featured a segment called "Spill Your GUTS":

In Season 1 (1992), host Mike O'Malley briefs us on the day's players by showing their interests and hobbies, as well as their accomplishments to reveal a fun fact about them.
In Season 2 (1993), co-host and referee Moira Quirk briefs us on the day's players to show their interests and hobbies, and ends each segment by mentioning what they think having GUTS equals to them.
In Season 3 (1994), during a pre-recorded interview; the day's players were introduced themselves to talk about their interests, hobbies, and accomplishments; explaining why they're excited to be on the show, and usually gives a shout-out to their friends and family back home.
In Season 4 (1995); the final season known as Global GUTS, the "Spill Your GUTS" segments took place outdoors, and the day's players were introduced in English, Mexican, and Spanish to introduce themselves. Portuguese players were also introduced, as well as German, Israel, and C.I.S.; the segments began with a shot of a spinning flag pertaining to that day's player, followed by revealing their hometown indicated on a map. The day's players talk about their athletic interests, followed by performing a sport to discuss a hobby, accomplishment, making a good athlete to show a good luck charm, and the segments ended with explaining their strategy to win, what they liked to be about Global GUTS, and what they wanted to be when they're older. Also during the fourth and final season, host Mike O'Malley interviewed the day's players after the fourth and final event.
On some episodes, the day's player spoke with an English voiceover, one of the following situations would occur, and here are the episodes on what occurred:

Events[]

There were several different types of events, ranging from field sports to pool sports. Many events made use of elastic harnesses for aerial purposes. There were also track events and an obstacle course taking place in the gym.

Objective: Modeled after archery, players were equipped with crossbows and velcro arrows. With the help of the elastics, they jumped off the Aerial Bridge and fired the arrows at the targets in front of them. Only arrows that actually hit the bullseye counted, and they only counted after the player hit the ground first before bouncing back up. The player with the most bullseyes scored in 60 seconds won the event (45 seconds in the Matt/Scott/Carly episode). All three players competed at the same time.

Objective: In this event, modeled after high jump competitions, each player, one at a time, jumped off the Aerial Bridge and tried to jump over a hurdle at a set height. Each player received three jumps (two in one episode). If a player successfully cleared the hurdle, it was raised for the next jump; if not, the player attempted the next jump at the same height. The player who jumped the highest was the winner. In the first two seasons, the heights they had to clear were 6'9", then 7'5", and 8'1". In Season 3, the heights were raised to 8'8", 9'4", and 10'0". in the fourth and final season, the heights were 2.5 meters, 2.75 meters, and 3 meters.

Objective: With all three competing at the same time, players jumped off the Aerial Bridge and tried to throw footballs through a set of tires and into a net. Earlier playings of this event had six small tires (for each player) stacked on top of one another in a pyramid fashion, and later playings replaced the small tires with one large tire, colored after the player's color. The player with the most footballs thrown into his or her goal in 45 seconds (60 seconds in Season 2) won.

Objective: Each player jumped from the Bridge and, upon jumping back up, tried to make their highest mark on a yellow wall with paint resembling Nickelodeon's famous green slime. In the first three episodes featuring this event, players put plastic gloves on their hands and dipped them in paint before trying to slap their hands on the wall. In later playings, players jumped into a giant ink pad. In the first season, players jumped into green ink, and in the second season, players jumped into ink pads corresponding to their jersey color and then tried to make their mark on the wall with their feet. Jumps had to include both hand/footprints in order to count. When measuring each valid jump, the lowest portion of the mark was counted. The highest overall jump won.

Objective: This event was based on hurdling competitions. Players jumped off the bridge, over two high hurdles, and onto the bridge on the opposite side, before jumping over the hurdles again and back onto the original bridge. A five-second penalty was imposed on a player if he or she knocked a hurdle down, and in the first two seasons a two-second penalty was imposed if a player needed help from the spotters. The player who cleared this event in the fastest time won the event. In the third season this event was made more difficult in that the jumps were longer, and the hurdles were higher, but the penalties for spotter assistance were eliminated because the spotters had to wait 5 seconds before assisting a struggling player.

Objective: A basketball was placed on a solitary cylinder in the middle of the arena floor. Here, players who were in three different corners jumped off their Aerial Bridges and to the center of the floor, and as they jumped up, they tried to grab the basketball and take it back to their bridge, which counted as a "rebound." Balls that the player dropped while climbing up their platform still counted as long as the player touched the ground with the ball in their hands before dropping it. If a player scored on an attempt where he or she made a false start, their "rebound" did not count. There were seven attempts in this event (reduced to five in Season 3 but changed back to seven in the fourth and final season), and the player with the most rebounds won.

Objective: This event looks similar to Rebound, this time the floor was painted to match the players colors. Here, when the players jumped off their bridges and to the cylinder, they would tip the basketball to the floor. Whatever color section the basketball landed on, scored a point for the player of that particular color. There were seven chances and the player with the most jump balls landing in their colored section was the winner.

Objective: This event looks similar to Touchdown, but this time baseballs were shot from four different cannons. Each player had a fielder's glove on one hand, and had to catch the baseballs with their gloved hand before using their free hand to throw them into the elevated net directly across from them which was referred to as turning the "double play". The player with the most baseballs thrown into their goal in 60 seconds won.

As dodgeballs poured out of an elevated tube, players attempted to catch a ball and hit one of their opponents with it. Players were allowed to catch a dodgeball thrown at them (though it would still count as a hit against that player) and use it against the player that threw it, or against another player. The player who scored the most hits against their opponents in 60 seconds was the winner.

Triple Jump

Objective: This event looks similar to The Longest Yard. One at a time, each player had two attempts (three in its first appearance) to jump onto an elevated platform, then over a set of barrels, and finally over a high hurdle before landing in a sand pit. The winner was the player with the furthest footprints from the aerial bridge but attempts that did not result in both feet being planted in the sand (including not reaching the sand due to lack of momentum) were disqualified; this was referred to as a "foul jump". Players were also disqualified if either they stepped over the foul line during their jump or if they failed to clear all of the obstacles. When measuring each valid jump, the portion that was closest to the aerial bridge was counted at the player's distance. The player with the longest overall jump won.

Objective: One of the most frequently played events, players navigated a six-station obstacle course (seven in the fourth and final season) one at a time. To prevent making strategies based on his or her performance, opposing players were not allowed to watch contestants run the course before their turn. Players had to complete each obstacle before moving on to the next one (any missed obstacle resulted in a disqualification). The player who cleared the course in the fastest time won. In the event of a false start, players would be allowed to start the course over once, but then a second false start meant a disqualification. The obstacles, which varied every time the event was played, included one from each of the following stations:
- Obstacle 1
  - Cargo Net – A rope ladder that players climbed up to an elevated platform.
  - Wall Climb – A vertical wall with a rope with which the players could use to help themselves climb.
- Obstacle 2 (falling off any of these made the player start the course over again, with the clock still running)
  - Tightrope Walk – A chain-linked tightrope that players walked across to get to the next platform.
  - Rings – A set of gymnastics-like rings that players used to swing across to the next platform.
  - Tarzan Swing – A simple rope swing across the pit to the third obstacle on the next platform.
- Obstacle 3
  - Free Fall – Players jumped off the platform into an air bag with a bullseye target. Renamed the Landing Pad in the fourth and final season.
  - Slide for Life – A 20-foot zipline ride halfway across the gym and onto a cushion in front of the fourth obstacle.
  - Fire Pole – Players grabbed onto this obstacle and slid it down to the ground.
- Obstacle 4
  - Elastic Jungle – A jungle gym filled with elastic bands through which players had to walk or crawl.
  - Tire Crawl – A set of hanging tires that the players had to jump into and crawl through.
- Obstacle 5
  - Wall Climb or Cargo Net, depending on which of those two obstacles was used first.
- Obstacle 6
  - Free Fall (depending on whether or not it was the 3rd obstacle)
  - Tube Slide – A tubular slide that players had to slide down head first to land in the GUTS pool. A camera was later added onto the slide to give the home viewers a 1st person view from the bottom of the slide. Renamed the Pool Slide in the fourth and final season.
In the fourth and final season, some new obstacles were added to this course, including:
- Slingshot – An inflatable slide that the players had to slide or jump down from.
- Pyramid – A set of barrels stacked in a pyramid fashion, which the players had to climb over.
NOTES: The one-hour special GUTS All Stars (1993) included an extended version of this event, combining most of the obstacles into the same course. It started with the Tire Crawl and ended with a Slide for Life ride into the pool, with a finish line placed into the pool that had to be crossed to stop the clock. Also, in the fourth and final season, the Tightrope Walk was renamed Monkey Bridge. Mike has also mentioned several times that players were proscribed from watching their opponents complete the challenge.

Players received a two-second penalty if they stepped off of the track during their run. Fastest time won.

Objective: In this event, the track had many different obstacles that the players had to navigate around, including running on top of a "river" (a simulated pond with stepping stones), then over a "rocking earthquake" (pieces of faux pavement that tilted up and down), after that scampering through and then climbing jungle vines (one set in the first three episodes it was featured in, and later two sets), and racing through a "swamp fog" on the final ramp. A wind also blew leaves onto the players during the race to make it more challenging. The more common version of this game had all three players run around the track, with the one crossing the finish line first being the winner. Alternate playings of this event had the players run through the course one at a time, with the winner being determined by the fastest time. In the second and third seasons, players run through different tracks. In the fourth and final season, players took turn by running through different tracks.

Objective: Based on Wild Wheels with a reclining tricycle (tricked out to resemble a car with head and taillights, a tail fin and a padded bumper), this event, likely inspired by the movie of the same name, had many obstacles to overcome. Players started at the top of a starting ramp that they would pedal down to gain some speed, earlier playings had no starting ramp. As they pedaled around the track, contestants passed "The Junkyard" a part of the track with scrap lying on it), then navigated over a series of speed bumps, renamed the Bump 'N' Dump in Season 3, and the Jumps in the fourth and final season, then raced through "Pothole Pass", a faux street with makeshift potholes carved into it, and finally crashed through a "Dead End" wall on their way to the finish line. The 2-second off-the-track penalty applied to this event as well, in addition to a 5-second missed obstacle penalty in later playings. Fastest time was the winner.

Objective: With rapids active, players had to paddle an inflated raft around two buoys and to the end of the pool, where they gave a high five to a spotter to end the race. If a player did not go around a buoy, he or she got a five-second penalty (2-second penalty in season 1) added to their time. The player with the fastest time won the event. In the first two seasons, if the player exceeded a 60-second time limit, he or she would get an automatic third place. In Season 3 (1994), the event (see below) was renamed to White Water. In the fourth and final season, the Wave Ball would still be used, but the pylons reverted back to buoys.

Objective: The swimming pool was divided into three lanes for this event, and each lane had an equal number of inner tubes. Players simultaneously swam to the other end of the pool, having to put the inner tubes over themselves as they swam along. After touching the end of the pool, they had to swim back to the starting point with the tubes still on them. The player who made it back to the starting point first was the winner. However, if a player did not touch the end of the pool before coming back to the starting point, or missed any inner tubes, he or she was disqualified.

Splash Down

Objective: Three inflated tubes were attached to each other (with bungee cords) in a triangular fashion, with one player on each tube. With the rapids active, players shook the tubes with their bodies in an attempt to knock their opponents into the pool. The last player remaining above the water was the winner. This event was timed at 45 seconds, and if all three players stayed on top of their tubes, they all received first place points.

Invisible Boat

Objective: Players were hooked to an elastic cord and given a paddle. The players used the paddle to walk themselves across the pool before touching the end of the pool with their paddle; this was made more difficult by means of several water cannons creating rapids in the pool. Fastest time won. In the third season, this event was made a bit more difficult, in that players were now required to paddle to the end of the pool and then back. As such, in this version of the event, not touching both ends of the pool with one's paddle resulted in an automatic third place finish.

As mentioned above, in Season 3 (1994), this event was renamed White Water, and helmets were no longer required for this event.

Objective: Strapped to a water ski skurfboard, players had to pull themselves to one end of the pool and back in the rapids. However, five buoys were lined up in the player's path, and the contestant had to maneuver their way around the buoys in a slalom fashion in both directions, also having to high-five the spotter to end their attempt. Any time a player did not navigate around a buoy, it resulted in a two-second penalty. The penalty would also be imposed on any player who lifted their skurfboard out of the water for more than two seconds during their run. The player who cleared this event in the fastest time won.

Objective: Cannons shot several baseballs at high speeds directly at the three players. In the first three episodes featuring this event, the object of this game was to dodge as many balls as possible in 45 seconds, with the player getting hit the fewest times being the winner. The second and more familiar version of this event gave the players a baseball bat to use. Here, they tried to hit as many balls as they could with their bats in 30 seconds (60 seconds in later Season 1 playings, and 45 seconds in Season 2) with the winner being the person who hit the most balls. The balls counted as long as the player touched it with their bat in any manner. Players had to stay in their own boxes or else they would be disqualified. In the first season, the players were outfitted in catchers' gear, and in the second season, they wore batter's helmets, safety goggles, and protective chest pads.

Objective: The field was divided into three separate lanes for this event. Each lane had barricades on alternating sides of the lane, and a revolving goal at the end of it. The players used a hockey stick, a pair of roller skates, and a ball for the puck; the object was to navigate around the barricades, keeping the ball in front of their stick, and try to score a goal by hitting the ball into the revolving goal. They would then skate back and repeat the process. The player with the most goals scored in 60 seconds (45 seconds in the Matt/Scott/Carly episode) was the winner.

The Crag[]

The fifth and final event, the Aggro Crag in the first two seasons (1992-1993), the MegaCrag in the third season (1994), and finally, the Super Aggro Crag in the fourth and final season (1995), ultimately decided the winner. All three contestants raced to climb a fabricated mountain, activating a series of lighted targets, commonly referred to as "actuators", six and later seven in the first season; eight from the second season on; on their way to the peak. If a contestant missed any of the actuators along the way, a spotter at the top, often referred to as the "crag troll", prevented that play from completing the climb until he or she returned and activated whatever targets they missed. The climb was made more difficult with special effects that simulated lightning storms, rock avalanches, flying "snow" and exploding debris in the form of glitter and confetti, "nuclear flying crystals" in the form of flying plastic balls, eruptions in the form of fog and steam blasts, and steep walls. Each contestant had a separate but identical side of the mountain to climb and was not permitted to cross into their opponent's paths or disrupt their progress. The first contestant to successfully activate each actuator, including the final one at the peak of the mountain, earned first-place worth 725 points. The second- and third-place contestants earned 550 and 375 points, respectively. The players' final actuator had a number of different appearances. In Season 1, two triangular flags against a pole were for each player. In Season 2, there were three flags. However, first place player had only one flag light up while third place had all three of their lights up. In Season 3, the final actuator was reshaped into a four-sided trapezoid, a thunder sound effect can be heard, when a player hits their final actuator. In Season 4, it was reshaped like the mountain.

A number of violations on the Crag could result in a player automatically receiving third place points. These included:

Inadvertently crossing into another player's section of the mountain, explained by Moira in the rules.
Using a railing to finish climbing up the mountain instead of the rock climb (only in early playings of the MegaCrag, this rule was dropped later in the season due to the unfair nature of the rule)
Accidentally hitting someone else's actuator (accidentally pressing the final actuator at the top would not be counted against them)
Making a false start at the beginning of the climb, i.e., beginning before the whistle
Finishing the climb without lighting all of one's own actuators
Not stepping on all of the boulders in the Crag's "Boulder Canyon" section at the base of the mountain, a rule introduced in the second season. The disqualified players usually ended up not stepping on the last and smallest boulder in Boulder Canyon.

The increased point structure in the event allowed contestants to overcome a deficit of up to 300 points, despite earlier mistakes. It also nearly ensured that no two contestants could achieve a tie score. The only way two contestants could tie on the Crag was if they both violated the rules as outlined above, which happened on a few occasions. Although theoretically possible, a tie in the contestants' total scores never happened, even when two contestants were disqualified on the Aggro Crag.

A double disqualification occurred in the following episodes: Rawley/Jason/Gary, Laura/Derek/Tina, Phil/Eric/Kate, Iris/Angela/Jeremy & Lisa/Angela/Evgueni

The highest possible score for a contestant was 1,925 points and was achieved 16 times throughout the show's run. Three contestants who achieved this score from the first season in 1992 were invited back to compete in a one-hour "GUTS All-Star Special" in 1993, to kick off its second season. The Aggro Crag went through several revisions in the show's run, each longer and more difficult than the previous version. In Seasons 1-2 (1992-1993), the mountain was called the Aggro Crag. For Season 3 in 1994, the mountain was renamed the MegaCrag. For the show's fourth and final season in 1995, it was changed to the Super Aggro Crag. In the third season in 1994, its color was changed to be molten.

The total height of the Aggro Crag was 22-28 feet. For the MegaCrag, as well as the Super Aggro Crag in the fourth and final season, the mountain was stretched to 30 feet. It should be noted that the Aggro Crag was not actually made of rock, but out of foam, particle board, and wood. Thus, being awarded an actual piece of the rock was intrinsically impossible -- the winning contestant received the glowing trophy shown on camera. On June 23, 2016, The Aggro Crag came back as the "Dewggro Crag" as a promotion for Mountain Dew's DEWcision 2016 to help bring back from the vault one of two Mountain Dew flavors — Baja Blast or Pitch Black.

The player with the most points after all five events won the game and received a gold GUTS medal, as well as a faux glowing piece of the Aggro Crag. In the fourth and final season, the medals were redesigned to reflect the show's new logo. With all seasons of the show, second place received a silver medal and third received a bronze medal.

Nickelodeon GUTS All Stars[]

At the start of the show's second season on August 21, 1993, Nickelodeon aired a one-hour special titled Nickelodeon GUTS All Stars, where three former players from Season 1 who made a perfect score of 1,925 points compete for a college scholarship and a special GUTS All Stars trophy. The one-hour special featured 7 events plus the Aggro Crag. The special also debuted five new events, which were later seen throughout the second season. The new events were: Rebound, Tornado Run, Hang Ten, Fumble, and Mad Max. The three perfect-scoring players from Season 1 were Mike "Superman" Schmidt, Jana "The Warrior" Waring, and Kelli "The Maniac" Marchewka.

In the award ceremony, each player received a silver GUTS All Star plate along with their college scholarship. Third place received a $1,000 college scholarship, second place received a $1,500 college scholarship and the winner received a $2,500 college scholarship. Jana "The Warrior" Waring, dressed in red, won the Nickelodeon GUTS All Stars trophy at the end of the special. The special was rereleased onto home video in 1994, with Lawrence Taylor providing commentary during the beginning, halftime, and the end of the special.

Global GUTS[]

A year after its three-year cancellation in 1994, a spinoff was launched to kick off the fourth and final season in 1995 called Global GUTS. The format is a kids version of ABC's Wide World of Sports, but with four athletic events and the Super Aggro Crag; however, the contestants now included children from the United Kingdom, Mexico, Israel, Germany, Spain, Portugal, the Commonwealth of Independent States, simply referred to as "CIS" on air, this only included Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Russia, and Georgia, though a press release claims to include Belarus as well, and the flag of Belarus was occasionally seen in the rafters, and the United States. Each country had its own team of broadcasters; Mike O'Malley retained this role as the host. At the end of each Global GUTS episode, the flags of the contestants' countries were raised while the national anthem of the gold medal winner played in the background, for example, if a player from the U.S.A. won a gold medal, the Star-Spangled Banner would play in the background. Each player then took a lap around the Extreme Arena with his or her country's flag draped over his and her shoulders.

In addition to airing the program on Nickelodeon in the United States, it aired on the Ukrainian Television Network in the CIS, Nickelodeon Deutschland in Germany, the Israeli Children's Channel in Israel, MVS Multivisión in Mexico, Sociedade Independente de Comunicação in Portugal, TVE in Spain, and Nickelodeon UK in the United Kingdom. As a precursor to Global GUTS, season 3 of Nickelodeon GUTS featured six contestants from the United Kingdom, competing in six separate shows. Of the six, four contestants ended up winning the gold medal. One of the Global GUTS episodes had three contestants that were from Special Olympic competitions, and this was the only episode that two players were from the same country. The contestants were Allison "The Stallion" Schivitz from USA, Cesar "El Cora de Mexico" Estrada from Mexico, and Katie "Socks" Piety from USA. In the end, Cesar from Mexico won the Gold Medal. During the Medal Ceremony, E.T. makes a surprise visit to the show and was the one who had the medals before Mo hands them out to the players. Global GUTS began on September 4, 1995 and ended on December 10, 1995. Taping of Global GUTS took place from July 12 to August 15, 1995

Famous USA Contestants[]

In 1992, Backstreet Boy A.J. McLean appeared on the first season of GUTS, competing against Amanda "The Accelerator" Bulger and Jamie "The Jackal" Mendelsohn, and finished with the silver medal, losing to Jamie "The Jackal" Mendelsohn, the "Jack of All Sports". He was in blue and referred to on the show as A.J. "Mean" McLean. He had one event win during his appearance, that being a win in the Slam Dunk event.

In 1993, Hollywood stuntwoman Anna Mercedes Morris competed on the show under the name Anna "Roadrunner" Morris. She was dressed in red, competing against "Lawless" Lauren Shealy and Paul "Running Man" Battson, and she finished with the gold medal, despite injuring her knee in the Basic Training event.

In 1993, actor Mike Vogel competed on the second season of GUTS with Christy "Blast" Gast and Cam "Ice Man" Burke and finishing with the silver medal. He tied with the other players for first place on Over the Top and also won the Aggro Crag event, coming from third place to take second overall. He was known as Mike "Flea" Vogel and was dressed in blue.

In 1994, actress Ashley Drane competed on the third season of GUTS with Nicole "The Bomber" Bozard and UK resident Leanne "Panther" Kelley and finishing with the silver medal. She was known as Ashley "The Face" Drane and was dressed in blue. Exactly 10 years later, Ashley made a 2nd Nickelodeon appearance, this time on Drake & Josh playing Drake's girlfriend Susan in the episode "Believe Me Brother". Mike "The Dominator" Drane, a Guts player from season 1, is also her brother.

In 1994, Houston Dynamo defender Bobby Boswell appeared on GUTS, competing against Robin "The Lizard" Rexroat and Jennifer "The Jaguar" Barnes, and finishing with the silver medal. He was known on the show as Bobby "Lightning" Boswell and won the soccer event "Shoot Out", just a hint of what was to come for the career of Bobby Boswell. (Boswell, who was dressed in purple, also won the Mega Crag event in that very same show.).

In 1994, Boston Bruins Bobby Bullock appeared on GUTS, competing against Melissa "Trouble" Tibbs and Tina "TNT" Martinez, and finishing with the gold medal. He was known on the show as Bobby "The Extreme" Bullock won the football event "Touchdown" and also won the hockey event "Slap Shot", he played Tae Kwon for five years of Bobby Bullock. (Bullock, who was dressed in red, also won the Mega Crag event in that very same show.).

In 1995, Cedar Point Festival Angela Ferris appeared on Global Guts as Angela "The Wheel" Ferris, playing for team USA. She wore red and played against Lisa "The Challenger" Cutterham from England, and Evgueni "Victory" Vakhlakhov from Ukraine. Ferris won three out of five events, including the Super Aggro Crag, which increased her score high enough for her to win the gold medal.

In 1995, Tony Hawk Character Paul Toogood appeared on Global Guts as Paul "Primo" Toogood, playing for team USA. He wore purple and playing against Pedro "The Panther" Silva from Portugal, and Carmen "The Earthquake" Grijalba from Spain. Toogood won three out of five events, including the Super Aggro Crag, which increased his score high enough for him to win the gold medal.

In 1995, Molissa Fenley Revisits Musical star Marie Morgan appeared on Global Guts as Marie "The Energizer" Morgan, playing for team USA. She wore blue and played against Oren "The Violator" Wohl from Israel, and Miguel "The Fearless" Tarraga from Spain. Morgan won three out of five events, including the Super Aggro Crag, which increased her score high enough for her to win the gold medal.

In 1995, Bring It On the Musical star Gregory Haney appeared on Global Guts as Greg "Big Dog" Haney, playing for team USA. He wore blue and played against Thomas "The Typhoon" Rosen from Germany, and Mor "The Twister" Kesar from Israel. Haney won four out of five events, including the Super Aggro Crag, which increased his score high enough for him to win the gold medal.

In 1995, Private Jet and Tom Brady Character star Jeremy Simpson appeared on Global Guts as Jeremy "The Jet" Simpson, playing for team USA. He wore purple and played against Iris "Fantastic" Gehrke from Germany, and Angela "Eagle" Aimeida from Portugal. Simpson won four out of five events, including the Super Aggro Crag, which increased his score high enough for him to win the gold medal.

In 1995, Jim Carrey Character star Marcia Cornett appeared on Global Guts as Marcia "Hornet" Cornett, playing for team USA. She wore red and played against Arnold "The Terminator" Vareykis from Ukraine, and Rita "The Warrior" Almada Guerra from Portugal. Cornett won four out of five events, including the Super Aggro Crag, which increased her score high enough for her to win the gold medal.

In 1995, Rick Steves Character star Christopher Bate appeared on Global Guts as Christopher "Psycho" Bate, playing for team UK. He wore purple and played against Jens "The Catcher" Bolhuis from Germany, and Beatriz "The Locomotive" Privado Mora from Spain. Bates won all of the events with the perfect score, including the Super Aggro Crag, which increased his score high enough for him to win the gold medal.

Schiersch won four out of five events, including the Supper Aggro Crag, which increased her score high enough for her to win the gold medal.

In 1995, Paul Nebel Character star Georg Sandel appeared on Global Guts as Georg "The Shark" Sandel, playing for team Germany. He wore purple and played against Roberto "The Bold" Valadez from Mexico, and Yelena "The Enforcer" Furmark from Ukraine. Sandel won all of the events with the perfect score, including the Super Aggro Crag, which increased his score high enough for him to win the gold medal.

My Family's Got GUTS[]

A short-lived spinoff of the show, My Family's Got GUTS, debuted on September 15, 2008 at 8 pm eastern/pacific and ended on October 10, 2009 on Nickelodeon and later Nick at Nite. The series again calls the studios at Universal Studios Florida home. This version is hosted by Ben Lyons, along with Australian celebirty Asha Kuerten as the referee.

Reruns[]

Nickelodeon GUTS reruns were shown on Nickelodeon from 1995 to 1999, then Nick GAS from March 1, 1999 until the network's closure on December 31, 2007. Five episodes are available for viewing online via TurboNick. Since 2011, Nickelodeon GUTS/Global GUTS aired sporadically on teenNick's block NickRewind. Past Global Guts episodes are currently seen on Paramount Plus.

In Popular Culture[]

GUTS was given a parody on a January 17, 2016 episode of Robot Chicken titled "The Unnamed One" as Sexual Guts where the contestant had to go through obstacles in order to kiss a girl. Then, the contestant had to do other sexual obstacle courses such as take a model's bra off and climb the Aggro Vag (a parody of the Aggro Crag, but it's shaped as a woman's hole). The contestant winds up winning the game by climbing to the top. However, he realizes that it was all a dream since he was studying with his girlfriend in reality. ADDITIONAL NOTES:
In the skit, former host Mike O'Malley did not voice as himself, instead he was replaced by the late Bob Saget and Moira Quirk (or "Mo") does not make an appearance in the skit at all.
On the same episode, another Nickelodeon game show Double Dare was parodied as (Broken) Family Double Dare featuring Marc Summers voicing as himself in the said spoof.

On the June 20, 2016, episode of Sanjay & Craig, GUTS was given another parody on the episode titled "G.U.T.S. Busters" featuring the voices of Mike O'Malley and Moira Quirk as themselves respectively. In the episode, both Sanjay and Craig competed in a national tour of the show.

ADDTIONAL NOTE: In this episode, along with GUTS, Mike O'Malley mentioned to Moira Quirk two other Nickelodeon game shows with Double Dare and Nick Arcade as a "conversational" piece.
