Kym Johnson (born August 4, 1976) is an Australian professional ballroom dancer, model, and actress best known for being a pro in two international versions of Dancing with the Stars; the one in Australia and the other in the US of course.
Dance Career[]
Johnson began dancing at the age of two. She began ballroom dancing at 13 years old. In 1998, she and her partner, Lithuanian Tomas Atkocevicius, placed second at the Australian Dancesport Championships in the Open Amateur Modern Ballroom. They also were finalists as the U.K. Ballroom Championships at Blackpool. She retired from competitive ballroom dance in 2001, but continued dancing on stage.
Since 2001, she has appeared in a number of events and films, including:
- Burn the Floor, a touring ballroom dance production.
- Performing at Elton John's 50th Birthday party.
- Dancing at the Blade Runner launch party
- Dancing in the film Strictly Ballroom
Dancing with the Stars[]
In 2004 & 2005, Kym became a pro on the first three seasons of Aussie Dancing with the Stars. Won the second one with TV presenter Tom Williams.
One year later, she came to the United States and became a pro for the American Dancing with the Stars in season three. Partnering with such stars as Jerry Springer, David Alan Grier, Joey Fatone, Warren Sapp and David Hasselhoff. Kym won twice; the first time was with Donny Osmond and the second time was with Hines Ward.
Recently, Kym was hired to become the new judge on the Australian version of DWTS causing her to leave the American version.
