Four months later, he appeared on 2001 Tournament of Champions. In the fifth quarterfinal game, he faced 5-day champions Kevin Keach and Tad Carithers, He gave fourteen correct responses (including one DD) and six wrong responses (including one DD). He was the only player correct in Final. However, Tad's small wager made him an automatic semifinalist, so he got a wildcard.
In the second semifinal game, he faced 2000 College Championship winner Pam Mueller and 5-day champion Rick Knutsen. He gave fourteen correct responses and only one wrong response. He and Rick got Final correct. Rick's runaway advanced him to the finals. He took home $5,000.
Ultimate Tournament of Champions[]
In 2005, he later appeared in the Ultimate Tournament of Champions. In the fortieth game of the first round, he answered the most responses correctly (including two DDs), but he answered 1 response wrong (the DD after finding all three). He was the only person who got Final right and advanced to the second round.
In the eleventh game of the second round, he answered 25 responses correctly again (including one DD), but he answered 5 responses incorrect (including 1 DD). Everyone got Final right and he advanced to the quarterfinals.
In the fifth game of the quarterfinals, he answered 17 responses right (including one DD), and two wrong responses (including one DD). He and Matt got Final wrong and took home $15,000 for being the Elite Eighteen (Round 2 winners) member.
