Larry Dean Martin (b. August 30, 1957 - d. January 25, 2019) was a second-grade teacher from Kansas City, Missouri.

He was a contestant on the Teachers Tournament, he won the $100,000 prize plus $2,500 grant. Before the tournament, he taught at Belinder Elementary School in Shawnee Mission in Kansas.[1]

Death[]

He passed away on January 25, 2019, at the age of 61 from pancreatic cancer, before he could participate in the 2019 Tournament of Champions.[2][3]

Trivia[]

  • Following Barbara Lowe, Jerry Slowik, and Cindy Stowell, this is a case of not appearing in ToC after obtaining the right to participate in ToC, and is the only case among Tournament cases.
  • One year later, Alex Trebek, the host of the show, also passed away from the same illness.
