Lucky 13 was a short-lived, high stakes primetime game show where it tests contestants' knowledge with 13 true-or-false trivia questions.
Gameplay[]
Pilot[]
Four couples are given a true-or-false question, and the ones who answer correctly play first, with a subsequent question determining who plays second.
Each couple plays "Lucky 7"; seven more T/F questions are asked, mainly consisting of general knowledge or pop culture. They are allowed to think through the question, before giving their final answers.
Each correct answer is worth an increasing amount:
- $20,000
- $15,000
- $10,000
- $5,000
- $3,000
- $2,000
- $1,000
Before the correct answers are revealed, the couple predicts how many they got right within four ranges: 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, or all seven. A correct guess wins them an additional $10,000.
The two couples then decide who plays the endgame. Whichever couple plays forfeits their "Lucky 7" earnings.
Lucky 13[]
Played the same as "Lucky 7", but with only one player and with thirteen questions. After the questions are answered, a rangeboard appears:
- 13: $1,300,000
- 10-12: $100,000
- 7-9: $25,000
- 4-6: $15,000
- 1-3: $5,000
For all ranges except 13, the contestant is also asked to pick a lucky number, which estimates the exact amount of questions they believe they got correct. If the lucky number turns out to be exactly correct, they win an additional $25,000.
Regardless of the choice of Lucky Range, a ladder with 13 slots is then shown on the board, with the contestant's Lucky Range and Lucky Number marked in the appropriate section of the ladder. Each of the 13 questions are then revealed in no particular order. The contestant's answer to that question is then restated. If the answer is correct, the stage will flash bright blue, and a slot will be filled blue at the lowest available spot in the table; if it is incorrect, the stage flashes red and a slot in the highest available spot will be filled red.
At some point during the round, typically when a contestant is inching closer to losing, the host will interrupt gameplay and offer the contestant to leave with guaranteed money; the amount of money being offered is typically much lower than the chosen Lucky Range. If the contestant accepts this offer, the game immediately ends, and the contestant leaves with only the guaranteed money. Otherwise, the game continues on as normal.
The number of blue slots filled within the ladder, corresponding to the contestant's correct answers, must be within their chosen Lucky Range (or in the case of 13, exactly that number) to win the prize money; if at any point this number reaches above the range, or doesn't reach the range at all, they lose immediately and leave the game with nothing.
Series[]
The series plays basically the same, with 13 players instead of four couples, one of whom is randomly selected. In addition, "Lucky 7" is eliminated.
After all 13 questions have been answered, the contestant is then given the opportunity to perform a "Pepsi Play." In this section, the contestant is able to change one of their answers if they are not confident of it being correct. If the contestant is satisfied with their answers, they are then locked in for good.
The rangeboard is exactly the same, except the top prize is lowered to $1,000,000.
Trivia[]
Actor Kevin Bacon is one of the executive producers of this show.
This premiered on the same day as the return of Press Your Luck hosted by Elizabeth Banks.
Gina Rodriguez was the second former Jane the Virgin star to host a primetime game show, one year ago, the first was Jamie Camil for Lotería Loca on CBS in 2023.
On November 14, 2024[1]; it has been announced that the series has been cancelled and will not return for season 2.
According to this article[1]by Deadline, that host O'Neal & Rodriguez, as well as various contractors, have not been full paid for their work on the show, the production company is being pursued by creditors in England. In addition, there is concern that contestants will not be paid their winnings as contestants were supposed to be paid 120 days after their episodes aired as the first episode ran on July 18.
