"Welcome to Open Wide! And here's your host, David Sidoni!"

Open Wide was an unsold pilot produced in 1998.

Gameplay[]

Three child contestants played a game of questions, answers & puzzles.

Main Game[]

The game was played on a board with 14 spots surrounding a giant TV monitor which gets covered by sliding doors. On the monitor hidden behind the doors was a hidden puzzle. On the 14 spots were point values. To earn points and a chance to guess what answer was behind the doors, they needed to play a Q & A toss-up game for control.

David posed questions to the contestants. On each question, the lights behind the point values flashed around the screen. When a player buzzed in, the lights stopped and whatever the light landed on would be how many points were at stake. Answering the question correctly scored that landed points and won a chance to solve the hidden puzzle. At the puzzle, the player in control decided whether to open either the left door or the right door by one inch. To assist that player, the answers to the questions were clues to the puzzle. The first player to solve to puzzle scored an additional 100 points.

The game was played in three rounds of gameplay. The first two rounds each had two word puzzles and the final round had a picture puzzle.

Round 1[]

In round one, the point values ranged from 30 points to 100 points (in 10 point increments).

Round 2[]

In round two, the point values increased to the range of 60 points to 150 points (in 10 & 25 point increments).

Round 3: Pic Click[]

In round one, the point values ranged from 70 points to 200 points (again in 10 & 25 point increments).

Hot Spot[]

During the final two rounds of gameplay, some of the spots had their point values replaced with Hot Spots. The player who landed on a Hot Spot and answered correctly could either add 50 points to his/her score or try to double the points/pick up more points and maybe win a bonus prize (in this case a Nintendo 64) by performing a physical stunt.

The player with the most points and the end of round three won the game.

Bonus Round: Quick Click[]

The winning contestant attempted to solve eight puzzles in 60 seconds or less. On each puzzle, virtual doors would open one click at a time and the contestant would take as many guesses as (s)he wished. As soon as (s)he guessed the right answer, it was revealed and then play moved on to the next puzzle. Each puzzle solved won a prize to the contestant and solving all eight also won a grand prize.
