Sahir Islam won the 1997-B Teen Tournament, and he was the last Teen Champion to win more than the minimum for the Grand Prize for the Teen Champion, until Elyse Mancuso set a record in the 2012 Teen Tournament, by winning $79,600.

In the third quarterfinal game, he faced off against Deon Lackey and Evan Johnson. Throughout the first two rounds, he came up with 19/19 correct responses (including 1/1 Daily Double). He was the only player correct in Final, and after a come from behind win, he became a automatic semifinalist. Evan's $6,399 was enough to advance as wildcard, while Deon's $1,500 was not enough, taking home $1,000.

In the first semifinal game, he faced off against Kathy Thompson and James Sumner. Throughout the first two rounds, he came up with 20/22 correct responses (including 2/2 Daily Doubles). He and James got Final correct. Sahir advanced to the finals, while Kathy and James took home $5,000.

In the finals, he faced off against Kristen Stuckey and Enos Williams. Throughout the finals, he came up with a combined 41/47 correct responses (including 0/1 Daily Double). He got Final correct in both games and won $26,300 for exceeding his minimum.

Tournament of Champions[]

In the fourth quarterfinal game, he faced off against Arthur Phillips and Pam Mifflin. Throughout the first two rounds, he came up with 28/30 correct responses (including 2/2 Daily Doubles). Nobody got Final correct, but Sahir advanced to the semifinals. Arthur and Pam received $2,500 as their scores, $2,201 and $100, were not enough to advance.

In the third semifinal game, he faced off against Grace Veach and Kim Worth. Throughout the first two rounds, he came up with 14/18 correct responses (including 1/1 Daily Double). He and Grace got Final incorrect, but after losing to Kim (in a come from behind win), they both received $5,000.

In the seventh game of round one, he faced off against Bev Schwartzberg and Michael Arnone. Throughout the first two rounds, he came up with 24/26 correct responses (including 1/2 Daily Doubles).
