8/5/1986 Deborah Michael Ellen Instant Cash is at $1,000.
8/6/1986 Ellen Ellen ends the day with a total of $44,609, winning a Porsche sports car from the Winners Board.
8/7/1986 Jody Aldo Ellen
  • Jody Spreckles was brought back due to an error, her first run predating the Instant Cash.
As she was on her 10th day then, she is playing to clear the Winners Board today. The only prize remaining for her is $3,000; she already has winnings of $53,412 in hand.
  • To reclaim the championship, Jody correctly answers a question about which North American country was once ruled by Emperor Maximilian (Mexico) just as time expires in the Speedround to break a 50-50 tie with Aldo. Aldo, who led 45-40 going into the Speedround could have been in a tie had he correctly answered a question about what popular syndicated TV show is known as "ET" ("Entertainment Tonight"; he draws a blank); Jim incorrectly states Aldo would have won outright.
  • As Jody's first run had taken place several months earlier, she had likely already been awarded her Winners Board prizes. Despite this, Jim goes through his usual spiel about risking her Winners Board prizes to go for the $50,000 bonus. She elects to go for the $50,000, citing it to be the year of the older winner, giving Willie Shoemaker as an example.
  • Ellen leaves with $46,287 in winnings, including a Porsche sports car and $7,129 in cash. Her final day prizes include an $849 washer-dryer (Kelvinator) plus a $700 Sale Surprise and another $100 cash offer from Jim.
  • Aldo wins $419 in track lighting and $200 from the Fame Game to leave with $669 in cash and prizes; Jody pockets $600 from another Fame Game to bring her total to $57,012.
  • Jim announces another Home Viewer Sweepstakes, to take place the following week, with cash amounts on the Fame Game board.
8/8/1986 J.T. Jim Jody
  • Jody wins the $50,000 bonus, retiring with $107,462. Her take includes a luxury automobile, a trip to Tahiti, gold earrings, a shopping spree, an audio-video entertainment package and $68,200 in cash.
  • Jody wins in somewhat suspenseful fashion, trailing briefly midway through the Speedround. Only after she answers her final question correctly in the final seconds does she secure her 10-point victory and the cash bonus. To break a 75-75 tie with J.T. and secure the win, Jody correctly answers back-to-back questions in the final 10 seconds about what state is represented by the 50th star on the U.S. flag (Hawaii) and who, in 1979, became the first female mayor of Chicago (Jane Byrne).
  • Jim wins a $300 telephone package and a $530 console cabinet table (via American of Martinsville) from the Fame Game, leaving with $870 in cash and prizes. J.T. buys a $629 dishwasher and pockets an additional $100 in the first Instant Bargain; her one-day total is $804. Jody rounds out her winnings with $400 in wallpaper from another Fame Game.

  • Instant Cash is at $2,000.
  • Nobody rings in on the second Fame Game, whose clues eventually lead to "a banana." While - as typical of Fame Game questions - early clues are a bit vague, the contestants are completely dumbfounded even after the answer becomes more obvious with mentions of "ripe yellow state," use in ice cream sundaes, and popularity with monkeys.
10/13/1986 Alison Frank Missouri Alison was first ruled incorrect on a question about the TV show Alice,
but the ruling was later reversed when the judges realized that the answer she gave (Flo)
was also the name of the spin-off series.
