Stand Up and Be Counted! was a game/discussion show.
Broadcast[]
CBS Daytime: 5/28/1956 – 9/6/1957
Host[]
Robert Russell
Format[]
Studio audience members left their seats to stand at a rail near the stage and offered opinions on various questions. The audience then voted on whether the opinion was good or bad. The person who made the statement would then be given a week to return to the show to hear the audiences vote, and opinions in letters from home viewers before making a decision. Once they made a decision, the person won a prize based on the final choice. In addition, the viewer with the best letter on the situation (as determined by the staff) won a trip to New York City to appear on the show, a car, and a tour of various cities across America.
Cancellation[]
CBS had problems with this show's time slot of 1:10-1:30 (following a 10-minute news report) throughout the decade, and when sponsorship problems arose, the network canceled it and returned the time slot to its affiliates until the 1980s.
Trivia[]
Robert Russell would go on to produce Yours for a Song five years later.
