Stopper Ball

A Stopper (or a Stopper Ball) is a red ball penalty marker usually seen in the Game Show Network/GSN version of the game show Lingo.

History[]

Usually in the main round, anytime a team draws a "stopper" from their hopper in front of them means they must forfeit their turn to the opposing team. In the Engvall version, if one of the teams grabs a stopper ball from a rack besides them, then they'll still lose control to the opposing team while the word "STOPPER BALL" would be seen on a video screen in front of them with the word "STOPPER" in red along with the word "BALL" in white.

The original 1987 version also had red balls, but they were seldom seen up close.

The design of the balls[]

The Woolery version had small rubbery balls that were painted red while in the Engvall version, their balls were painted silver along with a thicker white circular line and a red dot in the center.

Trivia[]

The word "Stopper" was also a reference to Chuck's former game show that he hosted called Scrabble from 1984 until 1990 and again briefly in 1993.
