Premise[]
Similar to Battle of the Network Stars & Star Games, four teams of four stars from the networks of ABC, CBS, NBC & FOX competed in a series of athletic events with a gladiator from the syndicated series as a team captain; all for $15,000 and the superstar gladiator trophy.
For most events. points were awarded by how they finished. Here's how the teams scored in those events:
- 1st place - 20 points
- 2nd place - 15 points
- 3rd place - 10 points
- 4th place - 5 points
Events[]
For this special, there were only six events in total like in 2008.
Waterfall - It's a relay race where one member of each team ran up a red water invested tarp up to a yellow line and back down again to tag the next team members. It will not be easy because of this: gladiators from the opposing teams will be spraying them with hoses.
Human Pinball - Two members of each team selected by their gladiator team captains and while lounging on large skateboards, navigating themselves through a large maze made up to look like a pinball machine. What makes it tough is that the opposing gladiators operated the flippers. There were two heats, one for each pair of contenders. The team with the fastest time were the winners.
Volley Basketball - This was a cross between Volleyball & Basketball. The teams bounced around a big mat, trying to make as many baskets as they can in 60 seconds in Volleyball-style. Each basket was worth five points.
Twister - This is the same Twister game you all know and love, but with a big twist (no pun intended). Each team was equipped with their own Twister mat. This game had the same rules as regular Twister. Each time a star contender falls down, s/he was out. Once the entire team fell, they were all out. Points were awarded by how long a team stayed up.
Pool Joust - Played like regular Joust, except that contenders were suspended over a pool, just like what would happen in the short-lived, two-seasoned only 2008 version. Plus, no gladiator competed. Again, each team was represented by two of its members selected by their gladiator team captains. There were two heats and in each match the first into the water loses. The winners got 20 points for their teams while the dunked contenders only received five, Each match would last up to 60 seconds and if nobody got dunked, both teams got 10 points.
Eliminator Relay - The two teams with the highest scores competed in this final event for the championship. This Eliminator was a relay race to the finish. The first network team members start at the Balloon Pit where they must find one of three balls in their respective Balloon Chambers. They move on to the next obstacle once they have each found a ball or haven't found one after 20 seconds. Next, the same two stars tackled the Ramp Ball where they must roll a ball down a zig-zagging ramp. If their ball fell off they must go back and start over. After the first two, they tag their teammates and those teammates must take on Ring Range which worked similar to Hang Tough. They must swing across a pit by swinging on their respective rings. If they fell down they must go back and start over. If one team member can't do it after two tries, s/he must wait until his/her opponent finished before they move on. After this part of the race, they then tag their next teammate who would tackle Domino. The objective was to run across the yellow foam dominoes without knocking one down and falling off. After completing that another tag and then the final team members make the final race called Breakout which was the same finishing obstacle at the regular Eliminator at that time. The final team members ran up a treadmill and swung to a breakaway wall and then cross the finish line. The first team to complete the course won the superstar gladiator trophy and the $15,000 to their favorite charity.
