Susan Stafford (born Susan Gail Carney on October 13, 1945), was best known as the first letter turner on TV's Wheel of Fortune. A former local TV personality turned national star, Susan was TV's party girl having partnered with Chuck Woolery for six years on Wheel up until Chuck's departure. At one time, Susan was offered to leave Wheel for another popular game show, The Price is Right, as one of the models by producer Mark Goodson. Susan gladly said no. She continued with the show after Pat Sajak became the new host in December of 1981. Susan left the show on October 22, 1982, to concentrate on other fields & make the jump to the medical world; she earned a B.A. in Nutrition and an M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University, and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the unaccredited Pacific Western University. Susan briefly returned to Wheel of Fortune in 1986 subbing for current hostess Vanna White who by that time was mourning the loss of her then-boyfriend who died in a plane crash; she was doing a teen week of shows at that time. Her most recent game show appearance since leaving Wheel was on the second Game Show Week on Hollywood Squares with Tom Bergeron.
