"It's time to play Switch! And here's your host, Jeff Hephner!"
Switch is an American adaptation of a Belgian trivia game show of the same name with contestants answering questions to move themselves between five numbered positions.
Gameplay[]
Five contestants start the game by taking positions behind large numbers 1 to 5. After a question is asked, players with correct answers move towards the #1 spot, and players with incorrect answers move towards the #5 spot. The goal is to finish the 3rd round of questioning in the number 1 position, winning the game and earning the right to play the bonus round (The Big Switch) for $10,000.
Speed Round[]
At the start of the game, a speed round takes place to determine which contestant gets placed at which spot. The five contestants are asked toss-up questions, with the first contestant to buzz in and answer a question correctly being placed at the highest spot possible. A wrong answer moves the contestant to the lowest spot possible. After four questions have been played, the fifth contestant takes the last open spot.
Main Game[]
After the speed round, the contestants play through three rounds of questions, all of which have three answer choices, and lock in their guesses using keypads at their podiums. Five questions are played in the first round, four in the second, and three in the third. Contestants who answer a question correctly move up, with the highest-ranked one going to #1, the next-highest to #2, and so on. Those who answer incorrectly move down; the lowest-ranked to #5, next-lowest to #4, and so on. If the contestant all answer correctly or all miss, they remain where they are.
In each of the first two rounds, the contestant in the lowest position after the last question is eliminated from the game. The contestant at #1 after the last question in the third round wins the game and $1,000 and advances to the bonus round.
Bonus Round (The Big Switch)[]
The day's winner stands at #5 and has 60 seconds to answer a series of rapid-fire questions, with the clock starting after the host has finished reading the first question. Each correct answer allows them to move up one spot, while each pass or miss sends them down one. If the contestant reaches #1 and answers one more question correctly, their winnings are increased to $10,000; if not, they keep the $1,000 from the main game.
