TV Land Ultimate Fan Search was a TV Land game show with two specials where mainly three television nerds competed to see who knew more about classic television.

Premise[]

Each show featured three contestants in a battle of classic television trivia. To start, a snippet of a classic TV theme song was played and the objective was to finish a line from that song. The player to get the question right earned control of a game board called the "Channel Panel".

Round 1[]

The contestants were given 100 points to start. Then the Channel Panel revealed TV related categories to which they had to choose from. The player picked a category, and then Chuck would ask a question from that category. The first player to buzz-in with the correct answer scored points.

At the end of the round, the player with the lowest score was eliminated from the game, but received a consolation prize for the effort.

Round 2[]

The two remaining contestants competed in the next round with brand new categories. Also, in this round, incorrect answers deducted points from their score.

Lightning Round[]

In the final round, the contestants played a 60-second lightning round to determine the winner.

Differences Between Specials[]

Round 1[]

In 1999, there were five categories and the questions were worth 10 points each, as well as control of the board. In 2000, there were four categories with three questions each and the questions were worth 25 points each; only the player to answer the last question in each category got to choose the next category.

In 2000 at the halfway point, the contestants played what they called a "Station Break" for more points.

Round 2[]

In 1999, the questions were worth 20 points each. In 2000, the questions were worth 50 points each, and there were four questions in each category.

In 1999, a special guest arrived to compete against the two remaining contestants and were asked questions about that guest. In this case it was Barbara Eden, who played Jeannie on I Dream of Jeannie.

In addition to other prizes, the winner of the Ultimate Fan Search got to select the programming for one hour of TV Land per week for one year, though the selections were limited to shows from the network's extensive library. Malcolm Bondon was the winner of Special #1 and went on to be the head judge for Season 2. Paul Goebel was the winner of Special #2.

Trivia[]

Paul Goebel, the winner from Season 2, went on to be the "TV Geek" on Comedy Central's Beat the Geeks.

The buzz-in sound used in the second season of the program was later used in History IQ.
