“It's pretty much the crossroads of our relationship.”— Frank Mesa

“We have a little baby girl, she's sixteen months old, and at the very least we need to have a working relationship to bring her up in a loving environment.”

“I possess certain strengths, such as physical, and she's [Margarita] a lot more cultured than I am. So her culture and my grit, I think made a good combination.”

“We have a child. We have a daughter, who is almost 17 months now.”

“Brennan stands in the way. He says, "Don't call anybody. Blah, blah, blah. Don't talk to them.”

“I mean, he could've arranged the whole thing, but he started discussing about, like, this whole group ticket sale thing, but if he could have bought two tickets and ran onto the boat, he would have ran onto the boat.”

“We've been separated almost eleven months now. We had the dreaded relationship talk last night."

"I'm thinking strategy."

"Onward to victory!"

"I just need your brain, I don't need your emotions."

“In this race, it's not about one person, it's about two people cooperating together in every aspect."

“Yesterday, we took a wrong turn in the desert and we almost ended up almost dead last. I'm hoping to recover. Things are not over. We haven't been counted out yet.”

“In order for me to stay calm and relaxed and cool, I figured we could do this Fast Forward and not deal with the rest of these people that are getting on my nerves. You know, their nonsense, their competitive behavior, and their bitching and moaning and crying. They got too much negative energy flowing over there. Just, we need to get the hell away from them.”'

“This trip has definitely changed my perception of Margarita. She's really shown me a lot of grit and a lot of courage that I didn't know she possessed. She's a great mother, she's a great friend, and I really love her for what she's become, I mean, we've grown together.”

“On this trip, we have regained a friendship. We've grown together. We have a whole lot of respect for each other and love for each other.”

“We realized we had quite a layover and I wanted to do something about our backpacks. They were weighing us down too much. So we set out somewhere we could buy bags and we found a mall.”

“When you talk about a pivotal moment in a relationship, Thailand was it. Like, we felt really bonded and together. Like, leaving all that junk there was kind of like a new us. Leave all the baggage behind and move ahead, you know.”

“I do appreciate that she's trying to help me out. I'm just a little impatient and stubborn and stupid sometimes. I guess I need to apologize.”

“As I feel, and I felt since the beginning, that if we work together as a team, and we communicate, I think we can win this thing, but if we don't, I know that we will just totally spin out of control and crash.”

“I do feel that we are going to win. I just have that gut feeling that we're destined to win this thing.”

"They were so scared to do anything at their own"

"They started following us, of course, as they normally do."

"We'll be in our comfort zone."

"Pit Of Death, here I come."

“It would totally change our lives. I mean, you know, I think Rob and Brennan's lives will pretty much stay. They live in a penthouse in Hollywood. I don't know, I feel like we have so much more riding on it.

"I just want to win."

“If I can make an observation, they're scared. They're very scared. I can see it in their eyes.”

“If they do use their little tactic of following us, I've already figured out ways of throwing them off the trail. If we can get out of the airport and we're all coming down together, I may give them the opportunity to jump in the cab first, take their route, then I know faster routes to get to this one particular spot.”

“I say Rob and Brennan may have won a million dollars, but I think we won so much more.”

“We haven't been living together for the past ten months, and I think it's going to be important for us to really connect.”— Margarita Mesa

“You know, Frank and I have been separated for close to a year. Once we decided to do this, we thought it would be a good chance to really see if we can work together.”

“At the port in Marseille, I think, was the first time all the teams had been together in one spot since the beginning of the race.

”“Every little step counts. You could be the first person on the airplane in the first row, and that makes a difference on how quickly you get out of the airport.”

“Because, you know, she has it her way or the highway or it's my way or the highway and we never get past that point.”

“When I get to that moment where I have a minute to collect my thoughts. I mean, I miss her to death. You're in the heat of the race, and I don't forget about her, but I didn't think about her for a couple of hours, so I feel badly about that, but part of me feels selfish for doing this because I'm her mommy and I should be there. But, I chose to do this 'cause it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I miss her every second, but at the same time, she's my motivation to just keep going, make her proud, win money for her future. So she's a huge motivating factor for us.”

“There are a few, quote, unquote, alliances that had been formed and those kind of fell apart.”

“Joe and Bill walked in and went straight to the ticket counter. No one was even there yet. They just stood there 'til the guy came to the window and Bill took it himself to decide that he spoke French, so he was going to do all of the arranging. No one asked him to.”

“I'm very competitive, and it's "go, go, go" with the two of us. It's "get out of my way.'”

“I'm the one who always starts wanting to talk about relationship stuff. Frank feels like-".

"Well he's thinking race. Here we are in the race and so that's kinda frustrating at times 'cause I want to sit and talk about relationship stuff, but right now, we don't know what's gonna happen in the long run."

“Bill became the martyr and decided he was going to arrange the whole thing.”

“It's really clear to me that we've been learning to appreciate each other and learning how to be teammates instead of, you know, rivals, 'cause it really easy to become rivals in a relationship.”

“Frank happened to be walking by the London ticket agent right before the flight was leaving, and he asked the guy, "You got any more seats?" He was like, "Yes." Luckily we got a flight to London.”

“It's like you look down and there's hundreds of rats crawling everywhere. In New York, they try to get rid of them, these people are like honoring them, and then you feel really bad, because you want to be respectful, because they're so unafraid and they're so happy to be there and you stick out like a sore thumb, because you're terrified and you look like an idiot and look disrespectful, so you try to keep it together.”

“I was standing at the top of the stairs and I just couldn't do it, then this boy led me down. We had to go into a sandpit to get the route marker.”

“And then Kevin and Brennan were behind me.”

“The first half of this trip, I felt not fully comfortable with the way we were interacting with each other, and a little bit less excited about everything that was going on, and now that we are feeling very connected to each other and very affectionate towards each other, no, I can focus on the race, because I feel like I'm more in love with him than I was before.”

“We act as teammates wonderfully. You know, I let him charge of certain things, I do other things. Like, we have ultimate respect for each other.”

“I'm the only female amongst all these guys, who run faster than I do, who are stronger than I am.”

“I think this race offers a lot of opportunity for you as an individual to push yourselves to the limits because I've done things I never thought I would have done.”

“I feel like our approach has been very different to a lot of the other teams. We've been taking it step by step, really calm, relaxed, and it's worked.”

“We were just able to get out of the airport. We got the first taxi, while Rob and Brennan walked down to the other end of the taxi stand and it made us move a lot faster.”

"Do you need me?"

"It wasn't about not working together."

“The money was not the motivating factor for doing this at all, but yeah, when I was eating those chicken legs and stuff, I tried to use that as a motivation mostly for our daughter. I thought, like, college tuition. One more bite for her.”

“Joe and Bill, Drew and Kevin, the total antithesis teams. I mean, of all teams in this race, of all 11, I'd say those are the 2 most opposite. What I do know is that both teams will be equally aggressive, equally determined, equally driven.”

“Rob and Brennan were all the way in the back seat of the plane, so you know they were pissed off about that. They were in the ultimate last row of the plane.”

“We're trying to be really friendly and warm to each other and understanding and respectful. It gives me a lot of hope that we can make it to the end and possibly win this thing.”

“We are going to win. That's it. There's no question about that.”

"They were scared"

“I feel I've pushed myself to every limit imaginable. I've been sick three times on this trip. Physically I pushed myself to limits I've never, ever pushed myself before and I feel like I have to win this.”

“What happened was I think Frank was just a little too heavy for the dogs, and he was the leader of the pack of all four of us and, like, my dogs kept trying to pass because I was lighter and they were running much faster, and, like, he was really slow.”

"I think our knowledge gives us a heads up in lead in the sense of not panicking. I don't think we'll panic as much because we know exactly where we are. I think our state of mind will be a lot more-"

"Yeah. We'll see. I don't want to lose in our hometown."

"Competitively, I feel a lot of adrenaline right now and I want to beat them.”

“We want to, like, whip their asses right now. I want to see that look "What happened?"”

“I didn't do this to lose. We have to win this.”

“You know, I have, like, all these little different pieces of motivation, you know, and they all are kind of sitting there right in front of me like, beat Rob and Brennan, be number one. I see my daughter's face, like, in the horizon, like she's there, just go for it. All these different things.”

We got around that bend, heard all the cheering of the contestants. I just figured, like, they're cheering, that's another good sign, like, you know, we did it. We won, we won, we won.

“He [Frank] looks at me and he's like, "Rob and Brennan are here". I was like, "Rob and Brennan are here?" That wasn't supposed to happen.”

“It became so clear to me it was this trip that was the fresh start for us, and that was when we started making the real steps towards, you know, building something new and sort of falling in love again.”

“I think this race could have a huge impact on our relationship.”— Amie Barsky

“We were in the cab. She [Kim] jumped in the front seat, started bribing. She was trying to negotiate, "Take us, take us, not them, not them".”

“The stress, it drives you batty. You're in foreign countries, you don't know where you're going, you don't know where you are. You're on a plane one day-.”

“Well at the beginning of the day, we knew we had to arrange a cab to get out of there at the chateau. We called the night before, and I confirmed it twice, so we expect a cab to be down at the bottom of the chateau when we get there.”

“As we head down, the roads are, like, winding and narrow, and I didn't know which way to go.”

“We had a local boy run us through the streets of-”

“And they give you a little towel thing to put on, and you get naked, and you throw your towel on, and you lay down and they start rubbing.”

“It's nervous when you get up, and you're not quite sure where your journey's gonna take you next. So the stomach is a little upset, trying to hold food down, you know trying to get your nerves calm, figure out what to do next.”

"You're a fat bitch!"

"[while sleeping outside] Ah, this is the life."

“We had a Detour to do a puzzle or do a listening task.”

“We were so adamant about getting out there and hurrying up that we just started driving.”

"What hotel?"

"Really? Mine was pretty nice."

"I'll do it. I gotta pee, but I'll do it."

"Olympic torch, kiddos!"

“It's either going to make us so much stronger than we already are, or we're going to come back on separate planes.”— Paul Joseph Alessi

“We both have short fuses and we're both stubborn and I'm sure we're going to get into it before this is over.”

“Nothing like I expected, I just hope it increases our relationship tenfold and then nothing will stop us then.”

“We bicker a bunch, but there's been so many other issues and stress factors, that we've been focusing more on that than us bickering. We've been pulling together pretty good.”

"How do they jump in our cab and just take it? In New York, they would have grabbed her out by the hair."

“I get so pissed that she [Amie] gets so upset every single day. This is her baby. She wanted to do this. I didn't even want to do this race. She wanted to do it. I'm doing it for her and she just cries every single day and it just infuriates me.”

“Fortunately he spoke English.”

“She's laying there all comfortable. Looked like she was getting a pretty decent massage. The guys are ripping my neck and pulling my hair out and stepping on me. It was horrible. And she's there going "ah". I'm like, "Ooh! Ooh!" and no oil.”

“But when she gets so upset, it just kills me. She doesn't understand, if it's between $1 million and her, I'll take her any day.”

"They were rippin' my skin off."

“She wants a specific wedding. She wants it by the sunset and the beach and hopefully to be able to afford the wedding that she wants and hopefully, you know, have a great wedding, be able to invite everybody and really-, but that all comes back to the million dollars. Nothing better than winning that $1 million for me.”

“She really feels that it's fault that we're eliminated and we're out of the race now, because he was sick. We're a team. It's a team effort and it's not her fault. It's...we both lost. It's not your fault, baby. Don't worry about it, we'll prevail in something else.”

“The both of us are mentally prepared to handle anything that comes along.”— Kim Smith

“The competitive side of me makes me dream about beating people.”

“She [Amie] screamed at me, like she'd scream at her boyfriend, I suppose.”

"I don't know, I can't do math right now."

"God, there are a lot of bugs out in the jungle. Go figure."

“I'm just from a small town in Texas. What concerns me the most is dying.”— Leslie Kellner

“I can't imagine how five people made it to the airport to the South African flight before we did.”

She's [Kim's] a coach, so she is the competitive edge.”

"We're in, what, seventh place?"

“It was cutting. I just cut in line.”

“You got to play a game, good sportsmanship or bad sportsmanship.”

"Who wants to go to Paris? I don't want to go to Paris. I hate Paris."

"I'm looking for four [tickets]. And she's [Amie] not with me."

"She screamed at me like she'd scream at her boyfriend."

"I don't know where that little cute couple that hates our guts are."

“I would like the money to buy the ring that I think she deserves.”— Lenny Zeke Hudson

“The relationship is going fine. I'm just really amazed that I'm able to come here with my girlfriend, to Africa, and experience things with her.”

“I'm a very competitive person, but I don't think I'm doing 100% right now. I can do better. I can do much better.”

“I wanted to rip their [Joe & Bill] and them their hearts.”

“$1 million is a lot of money to some people, but I don't think it's worth a relationship. I have never been out of the United States before, and I wanted to get a chance to see the sights.”

When we first starting dating, her mom and I will say this verbatim-."

She said, "You have a lot of work in front of you. It's not going to be easy." It's not going to be easy.

“My concern is that we stay in a positive frame of mind, communicate, and if something goes wrong, we can probably make it work out. She [Karyn] doesn't see it that way.”

"What did you say?"

"Well, that ain't nothing new."

"I want to rip their heads off and show them their hearts."

“We're gonna butt heads.”

“He knows I'm a very difficult person. I'm very competitive, very aggressive. He deals with me like that on a regular basis.”— Karyn Jefferson

“At the end of the day, we'll still be together and we'll have lots of stories to tell our children because when we win the money, he has to marry me.”

“We've agreed that we are different in a lot of ways. He [Lenny] knows I'm a worrier. He's more laid back. We've sort of leveled each other out.”

“It was the first time throughout this whole thing that we were that close as a whole group. I mean it was back-to-back-to-back and people were pushing each other to get down into the sewer, like "I'm behind him! No, I'm next! I'm next".”

“We helped them get their tickets through to get the train, and then they disappeared.”

“I think after our argument in France, we just decided we needed to compromise. We talked about what was important to him and what was important to me, and the need to meet each other halfway on that. If anything, I think it'll make the relationship stronger.”

“I can't, you know, stop and enjoy the way Lenny does, you know. I'm trying to find maps. I want to go to travel agencies, you know. I want to get information. I've always been very competitive.”

“I don't make any apologies for the person I am. I'm bossy, I like things done a certain way, preferably my way.”

"Make sure you say it right."

"When we win the money, he has to marry me."

“When it's time to prepare for the next leg of the race, you're so focused on the problems that you have between the two of you as a team that sometimes it's difficult to concentrate on what's ahead, and to be honest, he's [Lenny's] dozing most of the time.”

“We realize couples have differences, but if you love each other, you can work through them and that's what we've been doing.”

"I'm really disappointed. Disappointed. Disappointed."

"I'm disappointed."

"You're not going to shake my hand? We're not out, and you're not going to shake my hand?"

“We're still having, like, our little squabbles, but, you know, that's exactly what they are. We just keep getting up. Believe me, we're arguing all the way.”

“He tends to be a little bossy, and it's not in my nature to take orders very well.”— Margaretta Groark

“I am just delighted that we are right in the middle of the pack, which for me is fine.”

“I'm going so much, I haven't take time to be smart, and so hopefully the two of us will smarten each other up and slow ourselves down a little bit.”

“I've learned that I'm capable of doing a heck of a lot more than I thought I could.”

“So we lay down on the ground, and everything was really doing well, until it started to rain.”

“David is the eternal optimist. He doesn't have a pessimistic bone in his body. David always believes whatever he starts out to do, he will do, and will complete it, and he will do it well.”

“Dave & I have been married for forty years. We're just doing our normal thing. There's nothing on this trip that will make or break us.”

“Age is nothing on a piece of paper. Age is something up here. (points to head) The only time I feel my age is when I look in a mirror, and it almost does me in.”

“I want our kids to know we can do this, you can do this. I want our grandkids to have the same love of adventure. Get out there and do it.”

"David and I have been married for forty years. We're just doing our normal thing. There's nothing on this trip that will make or break us.

“We sure did not know at the time that you cannot exchange currency on the street.”

“I was under the impression we were going to go directly to El Jem from Tunis. Obviously, the way they work things, he passed us onto another driver.

“We had asked people, can you change this? The one fellow gave us money.”

“You have people who are reacting to stress, and normally wonderful people who wouldn't be this way are starting to let it get to them, and they'll take it out on anyone around them.”

“The agent said, "Well if you're a group, I can get a group discount."

“My wife is an amazing lady. She can do anything she sets her mind to.”— Dave Groark

“The only thing I'm sort of feeling right now is kind of dumb.”

“My background is basically a fighter pilot. I flew 107 missions in Vietnam. Fighter pilots are very positive in what they can do.”

“In forty years of living with her [Margaretta], I've seen her tackle all different types of things. When she decides to do something, she does it well.”

“They didn't want to accept English money. We never had a chance to change our money into dinar.”

“I just happened to run in a very nice young man, 22 years old, and he took us down right to the car that goes to El Jem.”

“We walked in, went into the bank, they said, "No, we're closed. We won't change any money for you." so we lost 20, 25 minutes.”

“Finally, one kid, really nice boy, gave her dinar.”

“You know, I come from strong-minded women in my family. So I'm high-strung and bossy, but Matthew likes that.”— Ana Robar

“He's the perfect partner. He's always upbeat and he's a lot of fun to be with and that's something that's good for a lifetime.”

"Once a moron, always a moron."

“We had a feeling we were going to be last, but after doing it, I'm so proud of myself and I was really happy, you know. I was so grateful just to be here.”

“She's really smart. She's got a good head on her shoulders. She never trusts my instincts.”— Matt Robar

“I mean, locals might know certain words, like gorge, you know? But they didn't know nothing.”

"Well, you fell in love with this moron."

“We got memories. I mean for a long time to come and it's something that I'm glad we shared together at least.”

“Our name is Team Guido, and Guido is our dog.”— Joe Baldassare

“Rob and Brennan, I found out, had never been out of the United States before. So, that was the official end of the alliance for me. 'Cause what the hell are they going to help us? We lived in Paris for two years. So, I figured, that's it 'cause there are no friends here. Best you can do is act friendly.”

“Bill is a take-control sort of guy and on a lot of issues, I just let him do it.”

“It was the order of who got there. We were obviously the third there, so when we got inside, Brennan and Rob who were first, kept walking and Frank & Margarita walked past.”

“The gal that was manning the gate finally went "Guys, guys!". It was right there. It's not like we tried to sneak in front of them.”

“Bill and I were still trying to intimidate them. I have certainly taken an attitude where you try to be friendly, but these people are not going to end up being your lifelong friends.”

“If we can help some of the - what we think are the weaker teams.”

“We know like we have always said that we're focused on the race. They're focused on us. We're going to win the race. They're not focused on the race, they're focused on us.”

“What it does is it advantagizes us, because we know that they're not focused.”

"I can't wait to see the big pendulum!"

"Bonjour! Bonjour! Hey, big strong guys like you, how come you're not doing the steps? Don’t you need a little aerobic exercise? They don’t know Paris, and they don't know where they're going."

"It would be just our luck to lose this thing in Paris when we lived here for two years."

"Who's better than us, here, on top of the South of France? With everybody lookin' at our behinds, no less."

"We're team number three!"

"It's about winning now. It's about winning and not letting anybody else win."

"The first circle inside the big concentric circle!"

“When it comes time to hand out the tickets, the tickets are misnumbered and Margarita starts screaming at me for her ticket. Then, you know, all hell breaks loose.”

“Tempers are going to flare, words are going to be spoken, everybody's going to be angry with someone else sooner or later.”

“So much to our advantage. We would rather be competing against Nancy and Emily and Lenny and Karyn.”

“Nancy and Emily were buying their coffee, right ahead of me. I was standing right behind them. Lenny & Karyn were also there. They left, probably quickly.”

"How the hell can they help us? We lived in Paris for two years!"

“It is definitely becoming more cutthroat. It's about winning now. It's about winning and not letting anyone else win.”

“But they've been saying this all along, 'There is something special about Bill and Joe.'”

"We're having a great time.”

"A big burly guy with a shaved head, who we know works in a courthouse."

"So when we walked into the Taj Mahal area, Billy really insisted on going to the right-hand side."

“When we left the Taj Mahal, we got a little jump on them because their cab couldn't start, but then our cabbie ended up taking us back to the station to get another cab.”

“We're working well as a team again, and our spirits are really high. We're ready to move on.”

“We are bound and determined to come out of this next leg as team number three. The leg after that, we'll be team number one.”

“Mentally, they're real sharp, they're real quick, but I don't feel particularly threatened by them as a team.”

“Eventually, it's going to come down to the final 3 teams. We need to be one of those three teams.”

“Bill and I have been totally focused on moving into third, which basically guarantees you a real chance to win the thing and we have not been thinking about how we're going to win the whole race just yet. We've just been fixated on "let's knock out Drew and Kevin".”

“So Bill and I are ready to fight and really determined to try and pull this thing out, and I think it's entirely possible. The race isn't over yet, and anything could happen and everybody loves to see an underdog team to win.”

“We're just focused on the end. We're not taking anything for granted, all it takes is one or two mistakes by these two other teams.”

“This will be snow country. We're used to cold weather. We love cold weather. So, throw it at us, we can handle it.”

“We're just now again focused on the end. Believe me, we're going to go balls to the wall. We're going to just zoom right past them, not even look back.”

“Who knows? Maybe Frank and Margarita and Rob and Brennan fell off their Ski-Doos and froze in the snow and we're in first place.”

“I think there is a way to catch up.”

“You know, nothing was changed about our relationship. Everything was enhanced by the race. It proved to us everything we knew about each other was true and enhanced everything about our relationship.”

"You Need to Watch Your Jokes, Guy"

"We do feel like the godfather's of tough competitors. We can be smart, we can be fast, we can be ruthless."

"Maybe Rob went wrong. Rob is not Jesus."

"(reaching the Roadblock and seeing nobody else there): The fatties [Kevin & Drew] got lost." - Bill & Joe

“You don't have to be the strongest person, you don't have to be the fastest, but you do need to be the smartest ones.”— Bill Bartek

“For some reason, we just didn't see the envelopes when we got there.”

“We were the second-to-last ones to get to the sewer.”

“It is so fiercely competitive right now.”

“In Paris, of course we've grown maybe a little overconfident, we lived here for a while, so maybe a little bit of complacency came into the play, but the way we were snapped back to reality really fast.”

“They call themselves the underdogs.”

“Now when we were going up to the Medina coffeehouse, Margaretta and Dave were just getting ready to leave.”

“There were several contestants that ran up to us and said, "Where's our tickets? Where's our tickets?" I mean if I wanted to, I could have ripped them all up and thrown them away.”

“Control the game, control the game, period. Play the game our way. Group Guido arranged the whole passage here. No one can leave without this ticket. I controlled the group - intimidated the whole group - by speaking French for two hours to the people that were there, also leaving doubt in their mind what I was doing. The other contestants were, of course, we're playing them like a violin, you know?”

“The other competitors are realizing that they haven't played maybe as smart as we have.”

“We're excited. We love it."

"We're having a great time.”

"It started with a verbal threat, "I'll break your legs." Very innocent, I guess, if you want to say that. A parole officer telling me he's going to break my legs. The guy's physically capable of doing that."

"Not more than two hours later he's pushing me and shoving me in a line."

“It's a sequence of violence I feel. I think women experience this all the time.”

“The temperature of the race, let's put it that way, has ratcheted up 300 degrees.”

“I don't like being thrown into a situation where I don't know what's going to happen, and every day before the race starts, there's a knot in my stomach going, "This isn't you at all", you've got to perform to the best of your ability, and you don't know what you're going to do.”

“As well as we play the game, the temperature will keep going up.”

“There's a lot left to chance in this game. I mean, you're no isolated. We're in the real world every day, and real world circumstances will prevent us from winning.”

“Being fresh makes up feel good. We want to just feel like every day is like the first day of the race.”

"It was a weird thing, I put my hands, and I felt this is it, it's like over here. We were definitely going and trust our vibrations. We trust what we pick up electrically, or whatever, and that was great.”

"Billy noticed there were a lot of shoes there, but it still didn't dawn on me that everybody else beat us there. It wasn't until we were just about to get off the podium that I saw Nancy and Emily walking in, and I honest to God thought they were right behind us."

“I remember saying, oh, my God, Bill, we're being eliminated. It was one of the worst experiences that I ever had in my life.”

“We're not leaving the monastery until 6:30 at night. We've made some flaws, but they're not fatal flaws and we can still win this game.”

“We know there's a big distance with number one and two at this moment. That can be changed any moment by the great equalizer, which is the airport.”

“We're just going to kick and scream and fight and try to get their as best as we can until the very last minute.”

“We're still very confident to win the show. It will be dramatic to have a team come from way behind and pull ahead as a squeaker. That's what I predict is going to happen.”

“We're in third place, and I think we're going to be climbing soon.”

“It could be that the other two teams ahead of us make some fatal error, and they have each made near-fatal errors before. I'm hoping that either by the race or by some mistake that they make, we'll have an opportunity to move up quickly.”

"We're very hopeful that we can make up 24 hours and that can happen very easily if you've caught up at an airport."

“I have likened myself to Bill Clinton's presidency. Bill Clinton had to save his presidency and pull it out no less than four times over the last eight years. Bill Clinton has termed himself "The Comeback Kid", and I'm hoping when all this is said and done, I'm going to meet Bill Clinton because he's got two of their comeback kids over here too. So I think we can probably pull it off.”

“We have learned so much on this race. We're changed forever. It's fantastic.”

“I hope we represent the women out there who love their families, and love their husbands, but don't mind being themselves.”— Brenda Mehta

“Pat actually introduced me to my husband, then we both had our daughters two months apart. We would have planned a weekend here and there, then we started backpacking. We've been doing those things for about close to 15 years.”

“I didn't care. I just wanted to make sure I had a private room so we could strategize more, get some rest like we needed.”

“They're totally distracted and they're totally worried about Bill and Joe are doing this, Bill and Joe are doing that.”

"And then we're invited to come around the table to see Phil.”

“Our main strategy is just looking at the next step in front of us, and that's the team in front of us.”

"We're absolutely determined to knock out Drew and Kevin out of third place and move into third place ourselves.

"Who knew that there were two Foucault pendulums in Paris?"

“I don't think either of our husbands were real crazy about the idea to go traipsing around the world, be we just made a pact and we decided we were just going to make sure we did it.”— Pat Pierce

“I think we're doing great as a team. You know, there's moments of friction there. We've never had to work together under this much pressure. I still think the Guidos are going to be tough all the way through this whole thing.”

“We've both been kind of silver-spooned in out lives, grew up with good educations and a good job, but that doesn't really matter when you find yourself hungry in the streets of Bangladesh.”— Rob Frisbee

“We decided to form sort of an alliance. Frank & Margarita and the two of us are still together, but Joe & Bill decided to go their own way.”

“What people have a gripe with Team Guido about is they try to hold other people back with deceit and trickery. It's just not a good way to play the game.”

“It turns out we needed a taxi. We called ahead for a taxi, and that was perfect.”

“Well what adds to the stress level is that the game is getting more progressively difficult. The clues are getting more difficult. The locations are getting more difficult.”

“They're your best friends to your face, and then behind your back, they do whatever it takes to stab you. We've been talking about it. I think all the teams agree that they don't really play the game like sportsmen, but they play to win.”

"[Bill & Joe] are your best friends to your face, and then behind your back they do whatever it takes to stab you. We've been talking about it, I think all the teams agree that they don't really play the game like sportsmen, but they're playing to win."

“This is a football game, for four quarters, we knock the crap out of each other. People have to understand this is a game, and it's a game to be played hard.”

“We get up to six or seven hour leads in all these legs, and then we can't get on a ship or plane. It's like almost being no use in being a better team.”

“This is an amazingly difficult game to play. It's about taking the next task at hand and getting it done as best you can, like any competition. Just get it done.”

“We knew we were in last place, and we knew we were in trouble, but finally we just said, look, the compass is in the car for some reason. Let's take a look at this. We know generally the direction we have to go. At this point, we're either going to make up time, or we're out, so we just gotta go.”

“It's unfortunate. Every time we hear that there's a team in last place, like when Paul and Amie were lost in the desert, everybody was bummed, you know? Nobody wanted them to lose and it's tough, but it still is a game and unfortunately, someone's got to lose.”

“At this point, everybody is competition. I mean, I give all the credit in the world to Emily and Nancy. I never thought they would have made it this far, but they are doing so well. They are really kicking butt right now and they're kicking our butt right now, and I can give them all the credit in the world. It's great to see them doing it.”

“The three teams, we ended up getting a really good flight out and Bill and Joe saw that we got on a better flight than they did and for some reason, they just went nuts.”

“Why are they doing that? That's stupid. They should be looking out for the faster, quicker way to get there. It doesn't bother us.”

“I never played the taxi to be a cheater. I felt like I was doing how I interpreted the clue. That wasn't cheating. I felt like I was actually being smart.”

“Fact of the matter is Bill and Joe are a strong team and have a good chance at winning. It's just a shame because I think things they do spoil the game.”

“Play hard, but play fair, you know? There's no need to try to sabotage other teams' efforts.”

“The more I think about it, the more it fires me up. I mean, the way I was raised, somebody treats a woman like that, they get their ass kicked, you know? It's just--. (groans)'”

“We arrived just beat, pissed off, and angry. The game, it just beats you down when you think you see an opening, and it just slams shut and there's nothing you can do about it.”

"Life is a game of minutes."

"The Guidos try to hold other people back with deceit and trickery."

“I think that we're in a precarious situation right now. We're three of five, but we've already used our Fast Forward. So as much as I think we have the ability to make it to the final round, if I had to guess right now, I'd say I don't think we're gonna be there.”

“We are going to use our Fast Forward at this time. Everybody else is significantly far ahead of us. Emily and Nancy have not used their Fast Forward, and since we're the two teams in fourth and fifth position, if they use theirs, and we don't use ours, we could very easily be eliminated.”

“The next leg for us is going to be a management leg. We want to go as fast as we can, but we want to avoid a major mishap. I don't care if we bleed a little time, I just want to stay in the lead pack, so you're going to take extra time, be careful with your decisions, and really think things out.”

“We're getting down to it now. There's only four teams left. It's really the horse teams that are left to run. You're so tired sometimes and so beat and so demoralized. It's going to be a hell of a race from here. It really is.”

“That's the first injury of the trip, but, you know, we nurse it up and get going, and it's all part of the game. Actually, injuries are a part of any competition. You suck it up and get going from there, no big deal.”

“So we're leaving Phai Plong Beach, and we've done a little research on the airport situation. We know the best place to go to is Phuket, which is nearby.”

"We think Frank and Margarita might have figured something out. Maybe they're taking a risk somewhere."

“Drew and Kevin will get on the flight tomorrow that we missed today, so we'll lose about 8 hours of our lead.”

“We have to go play ping-pong with a local player. We know that the Chinese are pretty good ping-pong players. We have a table at our place and we're good, too. Unfortunately, the old busted finger from the last leg is going to interfere with that, so Brennan's going to do the legwork on the ping-pong paddle.”

"Joe and Bill are scrambling a little bit right now. I think Drew and Kevin are a little more confident than they are, but tomorrow, one of 'em's history.”

“Now it's getting to competition time. We're getting close to the end.”

“Frank and Margarita are the people we have to beat now and we have to try our damnedest to do it.”

“We're young, we haven't traveled very much, we don't speak any foreign languages. You know, we just came into this with our wits and some strength and that's what carried us through. We've done a great job. I couldn't be prouder of the way we played the game. You know, played hard, but fair. Proud of my partner, proud of us as a team, and I think we've done more than I expected us to do.”

That's going to wrap up in New York City, and I think we're going to have to pull something out of our hat to win.

“After thirteen legs, you do get weary, and it's about time for it to be done with, and we hope we stand in the winner's circle, but we are at a disadvantage. We're the underdogs in this final part.”

“It's a horse race right now, and two really good teams, and we'll see what happens.”

“Speed is tactically the issue at the moment. We've got to be able to move as quickly as we can.”

“The competitor in me wants dearly to win. I mean, wants dearly to win and can't stomach the thought of losing to someone else. I think if I stand on that winner's mat, I don't think it's going to be the money that's running through my head. It's going to be just the sense of unbelievable accomplishment and pride. And what I did and what I did with my teammate together.”

“The things that we saw were unreal and we won a game that's fine, but I'll never ever be able to forget the things that I saw and you know, I did it with my best friend and there can't be anything better than that.”

“The strategy is to team up with Margarita & Frank and Bill & Joe.” — Brennan Swain

“I think the competition is strong, through and through. We're out with the lead pack, and that's a good thing right now. It's so early, who knows what it means, but it's dangerous at first because everybody does start off together and you want to distance yourself a little bit. You don't want to get eliminated earlier, let it sort itself out later.”

“The thing that make me laugh about it was when this whole thing started, they said to somebody that they wanted to show America gay guys were honorable, stand-up guys.”

“We headed out in sixth place, which of course at this point is second-to-last and Lenny & Karyn were behind us, but we're a little nervous that there's not going to be any plane flights or train rides or anything where there's an equalizing spot, like there has been in the other legs, when we've been ahead, they've managed to catch up to us. We'll find out what happens when we get to Tataouine."

ell, we ended coming up like forty minutes behind everyone else. We were the last team in, and it took us way too long to do. We were running around like a couple of idiots. We got out of there in seventh place.

“There was a long period of time where we had no idea whether we were going the right direction or not and it's a little bit scary.”

“We walk into Copenhagen, run to the gate, and who's sitting there, but all of the rest of the teams.”

“So all five teams are happily together again, ready to head on Delhi and race out of the airport and go do what they've got to do.

“The driver sounded like he knew where he was going, but he was really driving us to New Delhi to ask. So after it took us a half hour of traffic to get there, we asked somebody and they said, "Oh, it's in Agra."”

“When we left the Taj Mahal, we got a little jump on them because their cab couldn't start, but then our cabbie ended up taking us back to the station to get another cab.”

“We might be in last place. It's about a 7, 8-hour drive down there and who knows where the other teams are. This could be it, we might be eliminated.”

“We go from here and take a car or bus to Ao Luk. Frank & Margarita are right on our heels, but it really doesn't matter, because as long as we're the first two teams and stay out front for this leg, we're cool. Who knows, maybe this is an elimination leg, maybe it's not, but if the one is or the next one is, hopefully, we can make it to the top three.”

“We know we're going to have a good lead on Kevin & Drew and Bill & Joe. So, we have to make use of that.”

"We get to Bangkok, and we scoured every office, every tenant, anybody who could help us and we end up getting an Air China flight sometime the middle of the night, the next morning."

"We haven't seen Frank and Margarita running around like we have been, so maybe they figured out something that we didn't."

"Frank and Margarita and the two of us are kind of front-running right now. And the third team is a wild card."

“Right from the beginning, the main goal that Rob and I had was to finish the race. Now, it's time to focus on the victory. We know we're going to see it all. We're both competitive, we don't want to finish in second place. We want to try and win this thing.”

“We'll probably be neck and neck throughout the rest of the race.”

“It's time to focus on the victory. It's time to focus on winning The Amazing Race.”

"In the middle of the race, we had some bad legs. We had some luck going the wrong way, and we weren't feeling confident."

“We'll see what happens, but it's going to be tough.”

“The flight to New York, very surreal. This is it. I mean, we know New York City is the end. I'm nervous, but there's no way we're going to be able to take Frank and Margarita in their home borough of Queens, knowing that's where we need to go.”

“So here we are, 30 days and 30,000 miles into this competition and we are literally across a plane aisle from the only team remaining that can beat us. It's amazing to think that after all this time, it's going to come down to- the race has started all over again.”

“The experiences that I had, the places I went, the people that I met, the relationships that I've built, both with Rob and with other contestants, I hope will continue on for the rest of my life.”

“We're a lot different. I'm the get up and go, kind of on the spot, fly by the seat of my pants kind of girl.”— Emily Hoyt

“The last four teams were all kind of stuck together.”

“I was kind of afraid that maybe she would hinder me a little bit, but she's been right there every step of the way right behind me.”

“Until this trip, I mean, I knew her as my mom, but not know her as a person.”

“I mean, she's a person that never wanted me to ride a bike on the regular street. Now she's jumping off cliffs and letting me do it, too”

“We all start walking looking for second class, we all had second-class tickets. We keep on walking, we turned around, and Team Guido disappeared. They slipped off somewhere, and we're like great.”

“We haven't really always been so close, but we're getting along so well.”

"Completely."

"I think we kind of surprised a lot of people, because you would never think that out of all the teams that we would still be here."

“I never played the taxi to be a cheater. I felt like I was doing how I interpreted the clue. That wasn't cheating. I felt like I was actually being smart.”

“We haven't caught a break this whole time. We're getting through on the skin of our teeth. It just seems like the same people are getting the same good luck and I don't understand why that can't come our way.”

“One of them pushes back, hits my mom, like that really, like, do what you want to me, but don't hit my mom. Like, it really upset me and luckily, Drew--. I'm about to cry, I'm so mad.”

"The only monument I know is that Arc d'Whatever."

[after lighting the Coliseum on fire] "Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh, stop!"

“I'm sorry." (cries)

"I know, but it's just so frustrating because they pull this crap every time."

“I don't know if she's going to be ready to be as conniving as I'm prepared to be and I hate to have to get like that, but if it's getting like that or getting eliminated, (sarcastically) oh, which one am I gonna choose, you know? Seriously. I think she'll be fine. It may take her a little bit getting used to, but, in that case, I'm just gonna have her step aside and let me do the dirty work because it's gonna get a little bumpy, I think.”

“Honestly, I didn't think that we would go very far. Just the fact that we're still in it, we've shocked ourselves, so why not shock everybody even more?”

“I'm totally out of my element here. I mean, exposed to things I've never even dreamed of, much less been around. So it's kind of offsetting my little balance.”

“I'm hoping that maybe they will think they can catch up with everybody else and they won't go for the Fast Forward, because if both of us go for it, it's going to be ugly, because they play dirty and I'm about to start playing dirty, because I don't want to go yet.”

“Hopefully, we'll have a chance to catch up, that's our goal. We've come this far, why not keep going?”

"Yeah, it wasn't."

"It was simply to get out of that situation and get it over with. I agreed to throw in the towel prematurely, Emily did not want to and I will always feel bad about encouraging her to do that.”

“Sometimes she doesn't look before she leaps, and I think she might get us in a situation that I'm not quite ready for.”— Nancy Hoyt

“I don't know many mother and daughters who would have considered taking on a challenge like this.”

“One of the four of us will probably be the first team eliminated, because we're the last ones leaving.”

“I'm having the best time of my life. This is the most exciting thing I have ever done.”

“We got the clue, and then they just led us right back to the cab. The guys were a big help.”

“I've got the best job and the most important job in the world. I'm a full-time mother. I do laundry and clean the kitchen and maybe go out for lunch.”

“How lucky for me, that I can enhance my relationship with my daughter, by traveling all over the world.”

“This is just hard, with people saying bad things. The language I'm hearing, I don't like. The backstabbing, the viciousness, I don't like it, and I can't get away from it and Emily would die if she knew I was saying this 'cause I'd embarrass her.”

“We had luck, because there were maybe eight or ten teenage boys. I think they thought she [Emily] was cute, and they were kind of crowding around her.”

“We're extremely fond of the Kevin and Drew. Those two guys are just great. They're so good to us.”

“We ended up convincing them to lead us where the coffee shop was, so they took us right there.”

"Why didn't you go to the hotel?"

“Emily and I are opposite. I mean, we are opposite-.

“Characters and I think we're doing great.”

“I know now why foreigners hate American tourists. We were awful yesterday. It was an embarrassment. I am embarrassed to be associated with that incident at the airport yesterday.”

“I mean, they're like the oldest people left. You would think if they were that old that they would have a little bit more manners than that. I mean, I'm 21, and I have more manners than both of them combined and that's really sad. Really sad.”

“You know, the lack of sleep, and the lack of food, and the stress of the game, I think it's bound to catch up with everybody.”

“Each step of the way, I keep thinking, well, the next one is when we're going to be eliminated.”

“Honey, it's not that, I mean it's okay."

"I know, but it's just so frustrating because they pull this crap every time."

“I never realized how being dirty affects how you feel. It makes you feel bad.”

“The train station was really unnerving. We were waiting for a train, thinking the other four teams caught the 3:00 train, and Team Guido walked in. Just seeing familiar faces was a real comfort, but I think we were a whole lot happier to see them than they were to see us. I don't they were at all thrilled to see us.”

“Of course, we get the driver who cannot take his hand off the horn. Can you imagine riding in a guy's cab honking 29 times a minute? If there's a cow in the road, or there's a little kid on a bike, I totally understand, honk your horn, but there was no one even coming, and he would still honk. It was like maybe, it was a status symbol or something, like look at me, I have a horn, da da da, you know? I don't know, but it was so completely annoying.”

“One of the things Emily and I really wanted to do was ride an elephant, but it's like, hey, what the heck, we're in last place, by George, I'm going to ride that elephant.”

“We realize our only shot at even qualifying for the next round is to go for the Fast Forward.”

“This is a do-or-die. We either find the Fast Forward, or we're out of the game. It's the only way we can stay in the game.”

"When we deliberately broke that rule, it was not to cheat to get ahead of the other team."

"It was simply to get out of that situation and get it over with. I agreed to throw in the towel prematurely, Emily did not want to and I will always feel bad about encouraging her to do that."

“At this moment in time, even though we have just been eliminated, I feel like the luckiest mother in the world.”

“Kevin and I have done zero for preparation.”— Drew Feinberg

"You have to hit six numbers to get a live human being on the phone."

"Nothing's free, Kevin! We're in Africa! You go to the Statue of Liberty, is the guy giving these things [maps] away for free? For cryin' out loud! Free!"

"Zambia. That's where we are."

"Well it's got a map in it though, here, Zambia, there's where we are."

"You have to approach people in an affable, friendly way! You don't do it like you're in New York!"

“There is no finer place to be than right here, on top of this castle, with everyone staring at our behinds.”

“We do have a motive, helping them out. I'd rather have Nancy and Emily in the final leg, than have to go against the attorneys and Guidos. It's very tough competition.”

“We were pissed because we worked our butts off to get to first place. You know, we were a little annoyed, but hey, this is a game and we're here to play, we're here to win.”

"We showed up at Ksar Hadada. Apparently, we were the first ones there and we were opening each door, trying to find the other walkie-talkie by talking into the one we had."

"This little statue here."

"Don't worry about it."

"Get the camera, get the camera!"

"That's my boy. Always keepin' a sense of humor."

"Good night, Kevin."

"I just don't think the city's [Paris] anything special. I rate it no better than SoHo."

"Geez, why did I think it was gonna be an old guy who looked like Ben Franklin?"

"Who's better than us, here, on top of the South of France? With everybody lookin' at our behinds, no less."

"And then I heard the interference, and being used to using walkie-talkies, I know when they're very close to one another, you get that inference, that squelching."

"We climbed over the rooftops to make them think to make them think the walkie-talkie might be somewhere on some rooftop."

"What does it say? "Go Here"? Oh. I thought it said "Go Home".

"You saw what that was like in Midnight Express."

"We’re pretty much beaten them every single time to every destination just about."

“We're not that impressed with them.”

“Us being New Yorkers and having the perseverance that we have and the luck of the Irish, and Kevin, especially, charmed that girl into getting us a flight and it showed a lot of perseverance on his part. Not only did we get on this flight, but we got two other teams on this flight.”

“Team Guido saw that. I think they went into shock.”

"Alright, so what do you think that arrow means? I gotta pee, I might as well do it right here."

“We managed to get on a flight that would have landed us in Rome, with a connecting flight, three hours ahead of them.”

“And we want to win and it's serious. It's for a lot of money. We want to win, but you know what, I'm going to be a gentleman while I win.”

“We've been behind, we've been last, first, and now back close to last place again. We'll be able to overcome that over time.”

“Their intention was to just simply block us from getting on our plane on time, and they were hoping our plane would leave.”

“It's just you don't do that. If you're a gentleman, you don't push a lady.”

“I think some contestants might have took us for the bungling crooks in a movie, like the gang that couldn't shoot straight. Let them think we're noncontenders, but we know in our heart of hearts and in our mind that we are a force to be reckoned with.”

“I think every team that's left now is a concern. There are very smart, competitive, tough people left on this trip and I think, if they don't shoot themselves in the foot, this could be a five-way for first place.”

“Kevin was just totally amazing. When it comes to booking a flight, he is an absolute genius.”

“I believe we're the first ones to get a flight out.”

“It closed at 6, had our flight left on time, I think we might have made it, and then we would have had a 12 to 15 hour lead on everybody.”

“The kayak closed at 6 pm, so now as it turns out, we're like 15 or 17 hours behind the leaders. We lost an additional 8 or 9 hours.”

“I weigh 198 pounds, Kevin weighs about 215. Well over 400 pounds in a kayak.”

“Basically, we need to come in the top three. We want to be in the final leg. Once we make it to the final leg, you can just write the end to this whole damn book because it's over.”

“This leg is going to be more brutal than the final leg, because there are four teams and three are going to make it to the final leg. Earlier in the race, if you came in fourth, hey, you're in pretty good shape. Now, fourth place is last place. If you come in fourth, you're done.”

“I have no animosity toward Team Guido, but if we have to take them out to win, we have to take them down to win. That's what we came here to do.”

"We've spent the night in a pretty decent hotel, went out, had food. Not Chinese food because we're in China, so we-"

“This has been grueling. Physically, mentally, emotionally. We have nothing to be sorry or ashamed of, or nothing to regret, because we gave it our all.”

"We're five years older, five years more out of shape."

"Peru is nice. It's beautiful out."

"I'm sure it's nice in Peru. We're in Ecuador."

“We are the ugly Americans, there's no question about it. There's potential for an international incident.”— Kevin O'Connor

“Right now, I think we're a little euphoric from being in first place.”

“Rob and Brennan followed us into the coffee shop and how he got to the counter before I did, I have no idea. They had their coffee and when I turned around, they were gone. Lenny & Karyn, we saw them at the cafe. Paul & Amie, they disappeared.”

"It's amazing that you even got up this morning and tied your shoes."

"That's Namibia, jackass."

“Nancy and Emily, they're like family at this point and time. We've been with them since the very beginning. Drew and I have sort of adopted them as the mom and the little sister.”

"Swing, you fat bastard, swing!"

“For me, you can't trust anybody right now.”

"What elephant?"

"I bet those elephants smell like elephants."

"It's probably a little...a little tchotchke!"

"You're gonna get the window, you jerk."

"You think you're whatchamacallit from Wild Kingdom. Jackass."

"Is that an impala"

"It's a goat, it's a goat."

"I'm an idiot! I'm a friggin' idiot"

"I thought I heard him. You can't miss that mouth."

"Take the elevator to the Coliseum floor!"

"We have no food, we have no water...we're all set."

"It means go right, stupid. It means Drew is a dumbass."

“Drew is a cop, so he thinks he's an expert with walkie-talkies, so we figured we'd get done with it really quick.”

“Kevin thought he heard the other walkie-talkie as I was blowing into it, so he ran ahead, I kept blowing into it.”

“We heard Bert and Ernie yapping it up outside the gate.”

“Team Guido, they're doing fine. They don't make a lot of mistakes, but at the same time, we're doing everything quicker than them.”

“They're not doing anything fantastic.”

“The two guys who just purchased tickets ahead of us, just by luck, by chance, they got the last seats.”

“The next flight to Rome on our airline, Air France, is booked. Go right from here to the train station and suck it up. Right now we have no other options.”

“Everybody's running around crazy, "WE have to get to Rome, we have to get to Rome". And we were like, why do we have to go to Rome? Because that's where most flights are. I thought, let's find out before we go.”

“Nancy and Emily, they're like family at this point in time and we've been with them since the very beginning.”

“We've gotten hosed by the operating hours, and you can't do anything about that.”

"Just food."

“I was reading a thing in a book about the teaching of Buddha, and it said, "When you speak, just speak. When you feel, just feel. When you see, just see. When you hear, just hear." And the last one is, "When you know, just know." And we can walk away here knowing that we did our best and it didn't work out.”

"I was a circle then. I'm an oval now, I suppose."

“We're the ultimate team because w know each other well. We know each other's strengths and weaknesses.”— Paige Mycoskie

“Blake has always been a huge motivator for me and just having him next to me and pushing me forward, I think that will be awesome.”

“Wil kind of gets a little tesy sometimes. You know, that could hurt home in the long run.”

“We were really right up there in the front, and then we just started making mistakes.”

“We clocked out at the same time as Hope and Norm.”

“We're basically in last place. We're going to have to just haul buns.”

“We came in behind the grannies, and Cyndi and Russell, and the twins were all there. We just asked what they were doing because we wanted to check American Airlines, too, and they were at the counter. So we waited a long time and there was a lady that was not helping anybody, and the grannies wanted to speak to this specific person that was helping everybody else.”

“We were on the second plane, so were quite a bit behind. We're at the end of the pack, the last four teams.”

“First four teams left about three or four hours before us and we were on the second plane, so we're a little panicky.”

“I don't like Wil glaring over at Blake and always watching us. I can just feel the tension between them all the time.”

“So we burned the car and we're standing there, and we have no clue. And so we're thinking, oh God, we just went to the the wrong temple.”

“I really don't have a lot of fears. I'll tell you what scares the hell out of me: second place.”— Blake Mycoskie

“We found the American Airlines second, so we got on the first flight.”

“You knew, being on that first American Airlines flight, that you could relax because you were in the top tier, and that was really important.”

“The other teams look at us and say, "they're cute, they're young, they're not going to be that tough". I think that people will underestimate how much of a competitive force we are in the race.”

“Paige and I have done a lot of rock climbing and rappelling. Your adrenaline is flowing so much, you're just go, go, go.”

“My sister and I have been best friends forever, and I think we'll continue to be best friends no matter what happens.”

“We got someone to write "Please help. We're American and we need money for bus ticket". Within five minutes we had like $20.”

“At the twenty-first hour, is when our luck kind of changed, and we found a guy in the back of the bus who had a guidebook. We've been traveling with Hope and Norm, and we really like them a lo, but we had to sneak back there and copy this map without them seeing us. It was just hard because we knew we had to do that.”

“I don't feel guilty. I think that, you know, it's a race and so we didn't want to take any chances. I would've been totally different if we were in second or third place, but when you're in last place, you got to do whatever you can to make sure you get back into the middle of the pack.”

“We were trying to get the connection from Johannesburg to Cape Town.”

“We didn't even get a ticket there, so it wasn't like we got something special.”

“I feel very good about our current status in the race right now. I think we're in the middle of the pack. Eventually we'll get to the front of the pack. At the same time, we're humble enough to realize what we've learned in this race, anything can happen.”

“He's going to be ugly and be a jerk, I'm going to be ugly. And just let him know I'm not going to be nice to his face anymore.”

“Thailand has been like the Twilight Zone. No one, except at the airport has spoken English.”

“In the second temple, the guy told us that before the sacrifice we had to pray, so we got on our knees.”

“I threw it in, and no one had a clue and I tried to grab it out, and actually got a stick, and pulled this flaming car out of the shrine. So the'yre like, this is like a sacred thing for them and here I am taking back my sacrifice.”

“We panicked and grabbed a tuk-tuk, which was so stupid. If we were smart, all we had to do was jump in a regular taxi.”

“The whole inspiration for this race is that we are doing this for our two boys.”— Norm Davis

“When we get to the airport, security stops everybody. We just had to stand around and wait.”

"So this is going to open the world to us.”

“Hope went down that rappel faster, I think, than half the other guys. I mean, she was smoking it.”

“This race is a proving ground for each of us to show each other we're as much in love with each other and amazed by each other's presence as when we first met.”

“We found an English-speaking taxi driver. We told him we need to get to the bus station as soon as possible. And we found out that he took us the longest route that could be done out of all of them.”

"We got our tickets. We're standing in line."

“My key along this whole thing was to enjoy some of these fabulous places, and to experience it with my best friend, which is my wife.”

“We're real people, we have real emotions, with real problems, and yet we're still married, still in love, and struggle just like everybody else does.”— Hope Davis

“We got to the private yacht entrance, Blake and Paige came, so we pooled our money together and we got on the boat.”

“We haven't traveled to countries where there is a foreign language."

“I'm motivated to do this so I can do a race with my husband, to be able to do the adventures with him and have this fall back on the rest of our life. It's really neat to me.”

“Everything in your brain, in your body, is saying, "You're crazy. Don't do this". Then I was fighting back tears and fear.”

“My oldest son is terrified of heights, too. I felt like saying, you know, I really know how you feel. After I ran off the roof, you know, and your feet aren't touching anything anymore, it's the most incredible feeling.”

"And the only people in there was just Paige and Blake.”

"He said something to me on the way over. He said, "I found my girlfriend again". I feel the same way. He's my choice. I choose him no matter what."

“We're going on this race because we're absolutely fabulous.”— Oswald Mendez

“The one thing that I find difficult about this race is traveling coach. It's very different to drink 7-Up after you've drunk champagne."

“Well, Danny and I, are not a couple, but for all intents and purposes we are married to each other.”

“We were concerned getting on the later flight only because we wanted to have a good showing in the race, at least in the first leg.”

"We definitely wanted to get on that third boat. That was really lucky that we got here. When we got here-

“This race is basically going to be another chapter in our friendship. We recognize each other for what we are, and we trust each other implicitly.”

“The reservation agent told us, "I'm going to help you, and the only reason why I'm going to help you is because you guys are the only ones who've come in here and calmly and politely."

“I told him [Danny] we should do the dancing. Basically, if we dance, we wouldn't stink up, and the amount of money that we needed to earn was the equivalent to $2.50, which was fairly easy to earn.”

“I love the dancing. I felt like I was doing, you know, this Irish river dance on crack.”

“The best thing I did was befriend one of the guys who lived in the township. And I got to know him a little better. People are everywhere. If you go out and you extend your hand in friendship, they'll be helpful.”

“Danny's foot was a little bit out of whack. I think he pulled a muscle trying to do yoga.”

“We found out, again, how much it is worthwhile to be polite to people when you're asking for things. What the lady at Avis said to us, what I can do is have one of my drivers take you into town and take you to where you want to be. You give him what you think is appropriate as a payment.”

“We had to find the old railway station and found this fabulous hotel. We're like, okay, let's go in there and ask a question, where the railway station was. You know, wo go in there, and we see the little flag swimming in the pool. We're like, oh, we don't need to ask questions anymore.”

“We're attempting to exchange money, just in case we need it on the way over to our destination.”

“We're doing good. I hope my fine-feathered friend can walk tomorrow.”

“I had been to Thailand before, but the last time I was there, I was picked up at the airport by a Rolls Royce.”

“I basically walked into the bat cave, and I said, okay, here's my chance to be really, really butch.”

"So we found out, again, how much it is worthwhile to be polite to people when you're asking for things."

"The reservation agent told us, I'm gonna help you, and the only reason I'm gonna help you is because you guys are the only ones who've come in here calmly and politely."

"The moment she said, "I need an hour to get your flight ready," we said, "We need an hour to go shopping."

"God, grant me the patience to withstand the things I cannot change, and the intelligence to hide the body of this man once I'm done killing him."

“We are partners in crime.”— Danny Jimenez

“Early this morning, I started feeling some pain in my left foot.”

“And it got progressively worse. So I tried to keep it under cover, because I didn't want any of the other contestants to know.”

"We definitely moved up the ladder.”

“People generally assume we're in a relationship.”

“This experience has really humbled me. The competition is so fierce. I admire them all. They're smart, well-traveled, and they know what they're doing.”

“I don't know how I climbed up to the top of that lighthouse, but I did.”

“I had to really let Oswald know that I was in trouble and to consider the Fast Forward at some point.”

“It wasn't exactly close from the car to the mat. And I just—I mean, I was running. I was actually still running. I don't know where I found the strength. I really don't.”

“I felt pretty bad because we were like first, and we had like the last seats in the plane. By the time we got here, we were a little bit upset.”

“No matter what religion you practice, you need to respect your fellow human beings. You know, you send that into the universe, it comes right back at you.”

“I am not so confident that we will get along on the race, because we fight a lot.”— Tara Lynch

“There were three teams in front of us when we got to the rappel. We jammed down the rappel, so that caught us up with a few of the teams.”

“We dated and we got married, but we've been separated for two years now, but we're still friends. We still hang out. We still do stuff together.”

“We had a few difficulties with one of the teams. Wil had a problem with Blake.”

“If people are pushing you, then you're going to gave to push them back.”

“When we got the clue, I didn't even consider another Detour, I was like, we are hang gliding.”

“We went super fast with all these rapids. Then there was this beautiful waterfall.”

"We were on the same flight with Danny and Oswald and Gary and Dave."

"Very close."

“Wil and I have actually been getting along pretty well. I don't know if it's because we're in such a rush that we don't have time to fight. We've actually been quite a team. It's been good.”

"Ourselves decided in order to save money, we would take a taxi and all stick together.”

“We took the charter plane over. I got a little scared. There was nothing. No civilization, nothing. We pulled into that airport, it was a couple of buildings, that's it.”

"Our cab driver rocked."

"I'm not so confident that we will we get along because we fight a lot."

“We've had a few breakdowns with—he's broken down on me and called me names, but other than that, we're doing pretty good.”

“I was pretty scared, because I couldn't see for the last 150 yards.”

“Wil and I have actually been getting along pretty well in this race. We've actually made quite a team.”

"Game on."

"That's the way you play, then.

“Alex and Chris are cool guys. And all Wil can think about is, like, beating people, beating people.”

"I'm Not a Miner! No, You're an Idiot!"

“If we do well together as a team, I quite possibly could see us getting back together.”— Wil Steger

“I couldn't ask for a better partner. I'm sure I'm going to say this the whole way through. She's the calming person, I'm the hothead. We both motivate each other in different ways.”

“We've known each other for three and a half years.”

“I think we're actually play off each other pretty well. Our traveling experience helps a bit.”

“I was scared going down the rappel. I thought that was like the-, I mean, I'm definitely afraid of heights and that I thought was going to do me in.”

“Tara and I went down to the dock and flagged a fisherman down. So we're like, okay, well, we need to get a boat. We paid $100, but it was well worth it.”

“There's going to be competition between Blake and Wil. Mano a mano.”

“Thus us a race where you can turn a corner and then there will be another team right there, breathing down your throat. We just had a lot of luck flowing our way. Everything was flowing.”

“I think we're in the group that can do more damage to these other teams than they can do to us. You're going to slowly see these other teams deteriorate.”

“Tara and I were really doing well. When we got to one of the clues we forgot to read the inside details, and so we actually had a hard time getting to the Pit Stop.”

"If that's the way that this game is played, it's like—"

"I'll feed him to the tigers.”

“We have a furniture store. We've traveled the world as business partners, so our traveling could be our hidden weapon.”

“Tara and I, we got married, and then separated, and in the future, who knows where it's going to lead?”

“At some point, you have to start thinking about how you're going to move up and stay in first place. And she's not thinking like that.”

“So as we're walking up, I'm asking people with a map, "Where is this bus station?" He dropped us off in the middle of nowhere.”

"[Tara and I] have the best chance of winning, because I got Tara. I got sunshine."

"Your head's not in the game. You can't go over to these people and try to be buddy buddy with them. It's, it's cutthroat, this is a game for a million dollars, Tara."

"No, that's how you play."

“Even the best mother-daughter relationship is problematic. I'm going to want to do things really, really fast, and my mom is going to want to think things through.”— Hillary Washington

“My parents got divorced when I was 6 years old and I grew up mainly with my dad for a long time.”

“When she got down that mountain, see her face was priceless. At the same time, it was more like, we got to catch up to people.”

"I didn't grow up with my mom. In fact, me and my mom are reuniting after a really, really long time an so I think this trip will definitely change me and my mom's relationship just in the fact that, like, we came this far and we were each other's biggest fans. And I'm going to be even more of her biggest fan and hopefully, she'll be the same with me. And so it was great. It was amazing."

“After three or four hours, I decided we needed to split up and just do it. And I told everyone, "Look, this is it, it's every man for himself." Now we're going to be eliminated because we sat here and we formed this alliance. No more, dud. We're on our own.”

“We had no flight. My head was in the ground. We walk in front of the guys, and we're like, "We need to get on a flight." And he put on the first flight.”

"We finally got a flight from London to Cape Town."

"At the connection were literally-."

“It was definitely nice to pay some respect. I mean obviously we're here on a race and we want to get in and out as fast as possible, but, you know, here I am looking at history and it was pretty incredible. He probably lived in a little, tiny cell, too.”

“We go to the township. It's just, you know, dirty and poor, but it seems like a great, dynamic place.”

“Tara and I have been getting along really well, and I'm proud of the fact that we're working so well together. I still love her and I think she's awesome. We're kind of yin and yang, so we fit perfectly together, and this puzzle seems to be working well.”

“Last night, I had a lot of drinks.”

“The preacher got a little upset because were were all swearing.”

“He had reasons to be upset, I guess. Plus he's in a bad situation right now, because he's fighting for last place with Chris and Alex. Obviously at some point we have to split apart from everyone and really fend for ourselves.”

“She's a little flirter. She can see whoever she wants, and I can see whoever I want, but just as long as we don't stick it in each other's faces.”

"So Gary and Dave, Danny and Oswald, and—."

“I wouldn't want anybody else to be traveling with me. And I think that she not only holds her own, but she sometimes keeps me in line.”

“Paige and Blake have done everything under their power to disrupt the flow of this race. There are a lot of people, not just us, that are trash-talking about them.”

"Follow That Plane!"

“I think that we're going to be underestimated. We are going to prove them wrong.”— Deidre Washington

“This race will really change our relationship. This is something that we're going to do together.”

“I like to take the harder route and if anything, I'm going to make my mother rappel down this mountain with me.”

“One thing I must about Hillary, there was no second-guessing. She was not wishy-washy.”

“She said, "Do you have a problem rappelling down?" I'm like, "No problem". I'll rappel down the face of that mountain.”

“My cord got kind of tangled up.”

“You're thirty, you're hungry, you're tired, but you still have to push on.”

"I may not be so apparent know, but we definitely will both learn from this experience. We were tested. She cheered me on a lot of the way. You know, I cheered her on, too. We definitely have shared something that is so positive."

"This experience, it's just magnificent. This is definitely magnificent.”

“I've known this kid since we were in kindergarten.”— Alex Boylan

“I speak Portuguese very well. I played for a soccer team in Brazil for about six months. I should be able to help us out.”

“We found a little out-of-the-way place and yeah, it was a small room, and we had to stay in a little bed, but that's nothing. We've known each other since we were three years old. We're just a little bigger now.”

“Chris and I are just two good buddies trying to win a million bucks. It's a win-win situation.”

“I asked information, "What's the quickest way to get to Foz do Iguaçu?", and they said Pluma.”

“Chris came in there, just took control of the whole situation.”

“We got the last tickets on that bus. That was huge, huge, huge, huge.”

“We're scratching Tara and Wil's back, and we hope they'll scratch ours. You got to have another strong team with you to get to that last leg.”

“I jumped in the boast, and Tara was right in front, so we just start hauling up the river.”

“I guess she never saw the flag, but I saw the flag, pointed to it, like, that's good.”

“There's like a good chemistry that goes on with Tara and I. She's really cool, you know, and we have a great time together. We had to take a second to just stop and look because we saw this rainbow and it went across the whole falls. It was just amazing.”

“You have two choices on the boats, where to go and I saw her spin back around. So fell to the right.”

“Peg and Claire are great. They're just sweet, great ladies. You know, whoever—they're grandmothers of somebody and they're lucky to have both of them, because they did it with dignity. I think everybody really wanted them to see them go on further”

“About 45, 50 minutes it took use to get another cab set up to get us on the first leg, to get us started. So that knocked us an hour back almost of everybody.”

“The hardest part, I think, was looking down and seeing there was only one car left in the parking lot sitting there. It's been waiting there a couple of hours for us.”

“Those little jalopy, you know, semi-motorcycle-slash-car three-wheelers weasel in and out of traffic easier.”

“Oh it stank, dude. It was rank. Totally rank. It was diaper city. There were cockroaches all over the floor, and I keep getting pegged with bats.”

"...we're better friends with the teams in the front. So we're hopin' if we can catch up with them we can ride their coattails."

"We do have this alliance with Wil... It didn't end up mattering because it was a non-elimination round, but that showed his true colors... You know, I've been pretty cool, but after he did that, screw him, I think I'm just gonna take his girl, just for him steppin' in front he's gonna have to learn a lesson the hard way."

"I'm Gonna Take His Girl"

“I love competition, but I'm planning on kicking everyone's ass.”— Chris Luca

“We're all confident. We're like, yeah, we got the best bus, but all of a sudden, we're going down the road, a we hear like thump, thump, thump. So we shuffled off the bus, one of the inside wheels on the double wheels of the bus blew out.”

“We had half an hour lead and we though we just lost it. So every time a bus went by, Alex was out there trying to stop the bus, because we didn't want to lose that lead.”

“I was like screw that, man. I'm not going to wait around. I got right in there, whether the guy liked it or not.”

“We just got out there and we changed it out right away. We fixed everything.”

“I think on the road, it's really good to team up. Alex and I are really good on the road. We're fast, and I think Wil and Tara know that.”

“They're a really strong team, but I think think Wil and Tara is the biggest threat that Alex and I have. Keep your enemies close to you and at the end, we're just going to have to go our separate ways.”

“Everything was getting messed with, these flights were getting booked up, but these girls, these really hot girls are helping us out right now, and we ended up getting the tickets.”

“This is the first time we've been this far behind. Right now, we have some serious time we have to make up. We've been in pressure situations our whol life, so bring it.”

“We didn't know if we'd be dancing there for like two hours or something like that, and no one throwing money, so we went with the fish, something we knew we could do in a bout 15 minutes, bang it out.”

“We got done a good five minutes before them, but they needed more fish, so we gave them more fish.”

“It stinks being low. It's just easier to be at the top. It's actually getting the competitive juices going again. We're just going to try twice as hard and try to kick ass again, you know?”

“Alex and I were pissed because we know we belong up top. We sort of want to be up there. I sucks knowing that we're down below.”

"Gary gets on my nerves because he just talks and talks, and then when he doesn't have anything to talk about, he just talks about somethin'."

“I was just exhausted by the time I got there. I thought we were in a little better shape than we actually are, 'cause we went (gasps).”

“We ended up taking a tuk-tuk. And man, that was just the decision that turned it around.”

"It's Hammer Time"

“I think we've probably got a spiritual advantage. (laughs)'”— Russell Kalenberg

"We're not going to be slower than the other teams, I can promise you that.”

“We're both ordained ministers, but we're just gonna be who we are. We're real people, too.”

“We're certainly not going to pray and ask God to hinder anybody else, but we are going to ask him to help us.”

"We didn't even know we were in the faster boat. We thought everybody else was already there."

“Every other team has a lot more international traveling experience than Cyndi and I have, but we're not going to let that affect us.”

“He pulls us in to get direction, and there's this angel lit up right where he pulled in, and that just got us to the nightclub. We're both ordained ministers. We've probably got a spiritual advantage.”

“Cyndi and I are winners in anything that we lay our hand to. It's just a matter of working together as much as you can. We're not going to compromise who we are, our morality, and our word at any point, even if it costs us the race.”

“As it turns out, only the twins got a confirmed flight all the way through, and we ended up being put on standby.”

“Peg and Claire are two of the sweetest ladies that you'll ever meet in your life, and they have pushed so hard. I'm really impressed with how far they really have gotten.”

“As soon as we got off the airplane, we signed up for a taxi, so we just happened to get the first three taxis that came in leaving Chris and Alex.”

“We're from Smalltown, USA, and to be in Bangkok, was such a huge, huge culture shock.”

“I hate not knowing where I'm going. We didn't know where we were going.”

"Quite a trip."

“Cyndi did things that I never knew she could do. I'm more in love with her now than I ever have been. She's...phew.”

“Yes it has. An amazing journey. I don't know how close two people can get, but we're just very much in love, and we thank God for it.”

“We start each day with prayer”— Cyndi Kalenberg

“He's the muscles and I'll be the brains."

"We thought we missed the mark. It was just God's grace that took us to the pier with the faster boat.”

“I don't know what a rappel is. Do I do forward? Do I do backward? I have no clue.”

“I didn't realize how high the mountain was. I thought, okay, we'll just take this a little at a time, but it kept going.”

“I don't know what a samba club is. So we pull in an and I'm going, 'Oh!'.”

“She was so beautiful that it's like I wanted to go (covers eyes), all right, here, give me my clue. Have a fun night everybody, we got to go.”

“When we opened the Detour, our first response was we're gonna hang glide.”

“Once we exit to São Paulo, everybody mad-dashed in every single direction.”

“We teamed up with Chris and Alex this last leg. Chris and Alex, I think, are genuinely good guys, but I think you gotta watch your back a little bit. So we're watching them.”

“And Russell did say something last nigh to 'em. He said "Tone it down, guys. You don't have to talk that way.”

“We're going into the fourth leg, I think now all of the teams that are left are very, very, very aggressive. I don't think you have to play mean or trick someone to win this game. We just believe God that we can still win and not compromise.”

“I'm a very optimistic person, where he tends to be a little pessimistic. I do my best to keep us positive.”

“I think the thing that's kept me going the most is my love for the Lord Jesus Christ, and secondly the love for my husband.”

“Once we got into a major big city with a lot of people, he was more dependent on me.”

“Russel carried my backpack. He wouldn't let me carry it. He's been my rock.”

“I see the clue box, and I see all these swarming bats. I'm thinking, great. Just as I walk up, this bat goes (screeching noise) and hits me on the top of the head.”

"I'm not an outdoor person, and he loves all of that, so it's challenged me to try new things that I would have never gotten out of the office to do. So it's been a lot of fun. It's been quite a trip."

"Quite a trip."

“We call ourselves the Gutsy Grannies. We're going on this race because we're doing it for the grannies of the whole world.”— Claire Jinks

“So much happening, we quite didn't understand what was going on.”

“The Gutsy Grannies aren't exactly tough. Be nice if we were tougher. But we are shrewd, and sometimes we're almost fast.”

"We get knocked off the first day, I'll die.”

"We did not rappel."

“When you survive breast cancer, you look at life differently, and you don't put anything off. You want to do something, you do it.”

“When we left the samba club, we wanted to get the Fast Forward. We thought it was our only salvation.”

"We raced, really, back to Copacabana because we wanted to get the Fast Forward."

"Peggy, you're not thinking that for one second."

"My Alarm Clock Didn't Go Off!"

“We bought tickets, we thought, would've gotten out of São Paulo at 6 o'clock. We got there, and as it turned out, they did not have a seat left, so they got us on the 8 o'clock.”

“You had to climb way up on top of the cliff. Oh man, I can't tell you how steep that was.”

“We walk up, and everybody's very dramatic. They kind of look at you, and you think, okay, swell.”

“You have never seen two old ladies move as fast as these old two ladies moved."

"We just race out of there.”

“They are playing the game, but it's sort of ticking off some of the other contestants.”

"You were so happy to get out of São Paulo."

“Our flight came in late, so we couldn't make the connection.”

"I'm glad we did it. The other teams were so great to us. I mean, I guess they could all see their grandmothers getting shoved around the world or something. They were so good to us. Everybody tried to help us. They really did."

"I hope that other women our age will do it, too, because it's a big hoot. It's just fun."

“We may not be the youngest, be we are very, very determined.”— Peggy Kuhn

"We didn't get on the first plane."

"We got on the second plane.

“Was trying to hurry, trying to hurry and not wreck the car, but I don't like to drive fast.”

“There must be 7,000 stairs to Christ up there.”

“We took one look at that, no way.

"What's the second thing? If it's eating worms, we would have done it.”

“We do think we ave a little competition. We have a lot, but nothing we can overcome. The thing is she's [Claire's] faster than I am. Running, walking, all of that she's much faster. I on the other hand, get exhausted.”

“Claire played volleyball in high school, so she though we could beat the professional volleyball players here in Brazil.”

“I don't run very fast. I tore my knee up years ago in a skiing accident. So when I run, sometimes it will give out on me.”

"I can't run that fast on a good day, and I'm just exhausted."

“The instructor said, 'run fast'.”

“I'd like to think I'm not afraid of things, but I was thinking I don't want to die if I don't run fast or if I fall on my face, then we'd nosedive down into the trees.”

“If I didn't do it, Claire wouldn't do it, either, because we're a team, and that will screw it all up. So we did it.”

“My legs were wobbly. I could hardly stand up. We're going to go off balance, and we'll dive down in the trees and die. We flew over the ocean and I saw Claire when we got back in to land. My landing wasn't exactly smooth, but... (laughs)'”

“I'm thinking I might even take hang gliding lessons.”

“We met this really swell guy, and he translated everything for us. He was like our guardian angel.”

“We're disappointed, trying to be enthusiastic and Claire's doing a wonderful job of being enthusiastic. The worst that can happen is this is it.”

“Oh my God. We're still in the race, I can't believe it.”

"We didn't have time."

“When I opened the envelope, I was just thrilled. I've always wanted to go to South Africa, and I'm just totally pumped about it.”

“We had been standing at the counter for maybe an hour and a half, when this agent was freed up, they just went behind us and went to her."

“We have traipsed from one end of that airport to the other."

"Oh God I was.”

“It's a lot of turbulence and our New York flight to London was slow.”

"It's just really been fun. I'm—I'm sorry we're leacing."

“We're kind of best enemies. We barely tolerate each other.”— Gary Rosen

“We're planning on doing everything short of a felony to win this race.”

“We are, you know, two funny crazy best friends against the world. We may not have smarts, we may not have looks, but we have heart. We have heart. And you know what? Tortoises aren't very smart, but they win the race.”

"We decided the best thing to do was to do the Fast Forward clue, which was playing volleyball at Copacabana beach at 6:30 am."

“There's a couple sports I'm not so good at. Volleyball seems to be one of them.”

“I was actually out of the corner of my eye, seeing the Doublemint twins was doing really well.”

“Then we had a brilliant idea to do the other clue, looking for things under the beach with one metal detector.”

"So we finally got the 11 o'clock to São Paulo."

“Coming out of São Paulo, we faced some difficulty."

"There was this woman there who spoke English, who had a cell phone, who called the bus company. They were going to either send another bus or a mechanic. I was like, no mechanic.”

“We live in an imaginary world where we're brilliant, when we're obviously not. We're gonna keep on trying to focus on the fact that we are going to have to use our small skills to climb this very tall mountain.”

“I spotted some kind family, which we basically tried to milk for as much as possible.”

“I love Claire and Peggy. They're tough. They are some of the finest people that I've met.”

“We knew we were in the top tier, because we knew we had the first plane out of Cape Town. Feels pretty good up here.”

"I know, I kinda hated to see that."

"It seems like Cha-Cha-Cha spends their whole nights in a spa, and we're sitting here sweating like hogs. And we're like..."

“Gary and I argue a lot, it's sort of our way, but deep down, there's a respect and understanding.”— Dave Lepeska

“Fifty yards away from American Airlines, two cops jump in front of us.”

“We were first to arrive to the airport, we beat everybody there and that didn't matter at all.”

“We were one of the last people to get to the counter, so we didn't get any tickets. And now we're two hours and fifteen minutes behind the first plane.”

“We finally get up there. No teams were there.”

"The engine's still going, we hear this "grrr". The whole thing just shuts down."

“Fifth place, after we were so clearly in last. It was great.”

“The airport was dyfunctional. It took like six hours of schlogging our stuff up and down the hallways, to this counter, that counter, on the pohne, getting yelled at, turned down, turned away. Finally, we get our flight.”

“Chris and Alex and Wil, they were getting loud and getting vulgar. Wil a little more so than everybody else.”

“I must have been doing 50 or 60 miles an hour. It was great. It was really great.”

“There were bats flying everywhere. It stank. But, you know, I was smelling elimination more than bat guano.”

“We're riding basically, a lawnmower with a canopy. And it felt like that. It certainly went as fast.”

"And I'm sorry to hear it. But I want to tell you, this is a tough group to compete against, and I don't think it's any disgrace to lose to them. They're all great people, and we did our best, and we wish them lots of luck."

"You see how calm, cool, collected Cha-Cha-Cha was?"

"They're so zen."

"Palpitations and anxiety."

“Mary is always right. Mary's always in control. I do whatever she tells me.”— Peach Krebs

“I'm going to prove to my sister and my family that I can do this.”

“As I was sitting there, I watched a speedboat go by, and I thought, oh, we just assumed we had to take the big boat.”

“This is more difficult than I could ever imagined. My sister is extremely demanding and she's like a mule, she can do everything.”

“We were asking this lady about the directions where the salon would be, and she told us that we shouldn't go there. And everybody that came in the train after that said the same thing. And they said, "Don't go there, don't go there. You're gonna die, you're gonna die." So I'm afraid.”

“We're in a very crowded taxi, on our way to try and find Paradise Hair Salon in Zone 23.”

“Everyone on the taxi told us not to come here and the girl on the train said that if we come here, we would die. I'm actually more afraid for her, because she's out running by herself.”

“The fear of the unknown definitely frightens me. Doing things I've never done before. Luckily, I have my sister and I'm just going to hang by her coattails and go.”

“I remembered I had sunglasses in my bag that my sister told me if I had the opportunity to give to the kids to give to them. I'm very sensitive, so that changed me in the respect of to go in there, it was okay.”

“I have been sick, so I was really weak today, but we're just trying to hang in there and do our best.”

“Our plan was to take the Fast Forward 'cause I didn't feel really good. It said that we had to run to the top of a sand dune.”

“I was dragging. I mean of course, Mary talked me through, pulled me to the top again.”

“I can't believe I did that. It was great.”

“We thought that you had to run up the trail, and I would have to be honest to say we were slightly disappointed. Whether they tried to hurt us or not, I'm still disappointed.”

“When we were coming out of the airport, I said to my sister, "We're in Thailand!" It scares me a little bit, I have to be honest. Definitely scares me.”

“It was dark when I went in. It smelled horrific.”

“I was disgusted, but I thought I'm just going to fix what I did wrong, which I had to back up a little, then out.”

“I'm definitely stronger now than I did at the beginning.”

“My sister Peach, she's been catered to and her catering is about to stop.”— Mary Lenig

“The drive there is really bumpy and around a lot of curves, so Peach got motion sick.”

“Peach is kind, and that goes a long way and her ability to probably calm me down is a talent because few people can calm me down.”

“We are sisters, and we care about each other and we love travel. She just doesn't know it yet.”

“We've been running in the middle of the pack. As long as you're not last, that's all that matters.”

“As soon as I started it, I was glad I took it, because I love people, I love that type of area. It doesn't bother me at all.”

“I think a couple of lines got crossed and I think Wil played a key part in that.”

“We were the last team to sign up for the first plane, so that was a good feeling.”

“I feel we're sisters from heart, always sisters, regardless of the outcome of the race.”

“I can't believe I did that. It was great.”

“It was nice of Paige and Blake to offer us to read first today. Welcome to the world of being human.”

"Welcome to the World of Being Human"

“We can look at each other and send a message. I can tell by his facial expressions what he means, what he's thinking.”— Shola Richards

“We went to the samba club. There was a beautiful woman in there wearing a red-feathered cap on her head. We got the clue and moved on.”

"I though that would completely end our whole experience, because, you know, that's pretty serious."

“I'm afraid of heights, so when I saw the hang gliding thing, I was like, no way."

“We're like, oh my God, these guys are pretty good. We're going to have to bring out A-game in order to beat them.”

“When we saw Gary and David, it made us want to play even harder because we wanted to beat those guys.”

“During the volleyball game, I twisted my knee. It's really swollen right now. Pretty tough to want on and that might be a concern down the road.”

“When we were in the jungle and I ripped open my clue that we were gonna be going to Cape Town, South Africa, I was extremely excited. My dad, our dad, is from Africa, West Africa, Sierra Leone. So this is really like homecoming for us.”

“It just ended up being Doyin and I being able to go.”

“Being in the cell that Nelson Mandela spent 18 years of his life in, was just amazing. I wanted to spend time and really reflect on what this mand had to go through and it's unfortunate that we're in a race, where you have to grab the clue, read it, and then run out, instead of taking time to reflect that one of the world's greatest leaders was imprisoned in this cell that was so small. It's like a shoebox.”

"This Game Is About Minutes"

“We got there probably a minute or two after Mary & Peach did, so we missed the first flight.”

“One thing that was one of my weaknesses is driving stick. That was just—that's clear.”

“People are friendly. One local helped us out of the sand dune. Doyin and I have been counted out a lot, and we usually come back to surprise some people So be carefu'. Don't count us out too early.”

“I don't care which of the seven remaining teams wins. They're going to earn it because it's a tough thing to do. Believe me. I made it through four legs and there's nine more legs to go. If they can finish this, I want to be at the Finish Line to shake their hand.”

“I think people are going to expect a lot out of twins. They're gonna expect the best teamwork. So hopefully we don't disappoint.”— Doyin Richards

“My strategy was not to look down. If I looked down, I'd be finished, absolutely finished. So I just rappelled. I just started right at the rock in front of me, just kept talking to myself, psyching myself up.”

“We know each other so well. Our abilities are so common. There's no doubt the two of us in a team event could have an advantage over other teams.”

"When the cab driver ran over the heel of my foot, he was actually on my Achilles tendon."

"I've come too far to do this. Nothing short of me being in a body cast is gonna stop me from competing in this race. So it was hard when I was walking up hills, but...”

"We were in third place at the time. We figured let's go at least check out the Fast Forward and see if we can do this, so that's what we decided to do.”

“I wasn't too concerned about Gary and David showing up at the volleyball court. Gary doesn't seem all that athletic. We figured we'd make quick work of them and move on. The first team to score 10 points against these Brazilians that don't use their hands win the Fast Forward.”

“Shola and I got the Fast Forward. We figured out we were gonna make it down there hours and hours ahead of the other teams, but Tara & Wil and the Boston boys ended up making it on our bus.”

“Our bus got a flat tire. And we're like, oh my God, what else could go wrong today?”

“Problem was that we were just rushing around too much. When you rush, you make some simple mistakes, and then you get to the point where you don't know where you are. Then you start panicking. Lack of sleep and lack of nourishment doesn't help either.”

"It's going to take a lot more than a broken foot or a twisted ankle, or a twisted knee to keep us from moving forward.”

“I've always wanted to go to Africa. As soon as I set my foot off the plane and was actually in Africa, it was a wonderful feeling. It was everything I expected and then some.”

“We decided to do the dancing thing. We got on our outfits, but mine were both way too small.”

“I actually came into this with no preconceived notions of South Africa. I just did not know what to expect, and I have been blown away.”

“The competition is extremely stiff. These guys want to win. It makes me want to become more competitive. You gotta stay up with them. You know, eat or be eaten.”

“We didn't make the Detour. I was able to travel around the world with my best friend and my brother It's been absolutely amazing to be able to see different cultures, being able to travel all over the world. I've grown so much and I wouldn't trade this experience for anything."

"I CAN'T GET HIM TO GO OVER THERE!!!"

"WHY DO YOU KEEP TURNING?!"

"I'M TRYING!!!"

"See, I can't make him go over there!"

"Oh my god, I hate you."

We believe the best choice for all of us is to suspend the race." - Phil Keoghan (about the COVID-19 announcement [1]on the pit stop on the third leg).
