This version of The Cut was a short-lived talent competition series where a handful of would-be pop stars, rappers, and rock bands competed against each other and were judged. The prizes were a record deal along with MTV's funding to produce a music video which enter MTV's heavy rotation.
Premise[]
There were four separate acts per episode and vary from individual signers to groups. Artist performed in no particular order, and after the performances, a panel of alternating judges rated the performances on a scale of one to ten. Half-points, such as a 7.5 were allowed. Whomever had the highest score at the end of the episode advanced to the finals.

Host Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes was a former member of the R&B/Hip-Hop group TLC. She was sadly killed in a car crash in Le Ceiba, Honduras on April 25, 2002.
A then-unknown Anastacia came in 2nd place in the competition, but later was signed to a record label.
