The Glass House was a short-lived rip-off of the popular reality show Big Brother where fourteen contestants live in a house made of glass as they compete for $250,000.

(Keep in mind that this is not related to the 2001 film starring Leelee Sobieski of the same name.)

Premise[]

Fourteen contestants live in the house and compete in Double Dare-esque physical stunts. There will be a weekly eviction, with the public deciding on who should be eliminated (the 2 nominated contestants are usually the team captain and a teammate of the losing team). Once the bottom 2 contestants are decided, they are sent to limbo with the elimination happening the next week. Aside of that, the public decide on what they wear, what they eat, and so on. After that the contestants asks the home audience a question to try to change their strategy of the game (called "fanswers"). The leader of the house is a female computer, with the public deciding on the name (the contestants regularly calling her Oracle with the public deciding on the name Ori).

Controversy[]

  • CBS, (the network in which airs Big Brother in particular), warned ABC not to air the show due to the strong similarities to their show. The network tried twice to prevent the show from airing, but was unsuccessful. ABC tried to delay the premiere, but the show aired anyway.
  • The show drew low ratings from the premiere, though the reviews improved overtime. A 2nd season was seen as unlikely, and the show was pulled away from ABC's website and is assumed cancelled.
