The Price is Right had a variety of different changes of the set over the years because of the fact that it has to match the decade or the year. The set would also change to give it a better look, style or improvement.

Opening Music[]

  • On September 4, 1972, an original Come on Down intro cue was used. Another was used which sounds a lot like a showcase cue when someone wins in Contestants' Row or calling another contestant to join the other three in Contestants' Row.
  • On February 19, 1976, the "Come on Down" cues are replaced the cue called "Walking." The first version of "Walking" is more fully orchestrated with more instruments than the one used for the body of the show.
  • On October 9, 1979, the "Walking" cue used during the opening is replaced with an identical edit of a less fully-orchestrated version of the cue used for the body of the show and was put to permanent use on October 11, 1979.
  • On February 21, 2002, the "Walking" cue gets extended so that the first 17 seconds loop once.
  • On April 15, 2002, the "Walking" cue, used since October 11, 1979, was played for the final time.
  • On April 16, 2002, the extended "Walking" cue, where it loops for the first 17 seconds, was put to permanent use.
  • On October 15, 2007, a remix of the extended "Walking" cue played under new host Drew Carey's tenure.

Light Border/Opening Titles[]

  • On September 8, 1975, the Light Border was introduced. It has a simple ring of chasing light bulbs a short distance into the screen.
  • On September 12, 1975, an opaque yellow border has been added around the lights that extends to the edges of the screen.
  • On September 19, 1975, the border wasn't used for the last seven weeks of half-hour shows.
  • On November 3, 1975, the light border was put to permanent use which also gets updated to have a transparent gold trim around the lights. The opening phrase was "one hour" which would flash in the screen in red, green or blue.
  • On January 6, 1976, the opening phrase changed from one hour to hour power. It also adopted the first of its standard fonts. It also introduces the zoom-in growing phrase effect, therefore, the phrase starts out small in the middle and gradually grows larger while the phrase flashes.
  • On January 28, 1976, the opening titles are pink.
  • On September 21, 1976, the "hour power" text is now full-sized the entirety it is on the screen.
  • On March 15, 1977, the opening titles are yellow.
  • On June 23, 1977, the opening titles are a greenish-blue color.
  • On November 14, 1977, the text on the opening titles now rapidly and repeatedly grows and shrinks as it flashes all the while.
  • On January 23, 1978, the opening titles are a yellowy-orange color.
  • On October 23, 1979, the opening titles now rapidly grow and disappear four times.
  • On September 17, 1981, the opening titles are red and begun with any phrase other than "hour power."
  • On October 16, 1981, the opening titles change back to blue.
  • On December 24, 1982, the opening titles are green.
  • On September 12, 1983, when the show does a new season premiere, it shows how long the show has been on the air.
  • On September 17, 1984, the opening titles change back to red again.
  • On December 20, 1984, the light bulbs on the light border changed orange for two out of the three, giving it the appearance of being a completely different prop.
  • On June 4, 1985, the opening titles have the more familiar flip horizontal effect as each text grows. The first three opening texts would grow, flip, and stop for a couple of seconds and disappear, while the fourth would grow, flip, and stop for a couple of seconds before shrinking back into the screen.
  • On September 9, 1986, the more golden light border was introduced. The number of opening texts has been reduced from four to the current three. The titles no longer say the same thing. The first two opening texts disappear while the third shrinks and disappears into the screen.
  • On November 21, 1986, the opening titles change back to blue again.
  • On March 12, 2008, the MDS Light Border has been adopted onto daytime TV.
  • On September 21, 2009, a computer generated light border was introduced and had a ring of light with blue squares on the inside. The opening title texts no longer appear in the center.
  • On September 20, 2010, the golden light border was reintroduced, but it was computer generated.
  • On September 19, 2011, the light border changes back to a ring of light with a very thin silver rectangle around it.
  • On September 17, 2012, the thin silver rectangle was removed from the light border, leaving the ring of computer generated lights remaining.
  • On September 23, 2013, a computer generated logo of The Price is Right appears and then zooms out, followed by an LED computer generated light border with two Price dollar signs on the side.
  • From September 21 to 24, 2015, during Decades week, the former light borders were reintroduced, but were now in enhanced CGI Form.
  • On September 19, 2016, a light border resembling one of the big doors was used with snake like chase lights, still with the two Price dollar signs on the side.
  • On September 13, 2021, the light border was changed to gold colors. Also, a classic version of The Price is Right logo is seen before the light border appears.

Opening Logos[]

  • On September 4, 1972, the pricedown dollar sign and the word "new" were colored orange and the other words in the title were white.
  • On June 22, 1973, the title of the show dropped out the word "new" to simply title it as The Price is Right, while the Pricedown dollar sign and the word "price" were still colored yellow.
  • On September 16, 1976, the title from the word "Price" changed from yellow to white.
  • On September 24, 2001, the title from the word "price" changed from white to red and the "30 Years" logo debuted.
  • On September 23, 2002, the "31 Years" logo debuted in the opening only for the premiere of the 31st season, but the logo was used in the mid-show bumper for the rest of the season.
  • On September 22, 2003, the "32 Years" logo debuted in the mid-show bumper only for the premiere of the 32nd season.
  • On September 19, 2005, the "34 Years" logo debuted only for the premiere of the 34th season.
  • On September 18, 2006, the "35 Years Price is Right" logo debuted, but there weren't any stars or asterisks surrounding it.
  • On September 19, 2006, the "35 Years Price is Right" logo added the stars and asterisks all around the logo.
  • On October 15, 2007, the new logo appeared on the screen at the opening by flying in from all directions. The orange section flew left, the red section flew right, the dollar sign flew from the top and the words flew down from the bottom. This version of the logo has no background.
  • On September 21, 2009, the Pricedown dollar sign appears in CGI animated form, then it zooms back so the red and orange sections and the text would fly in. When the Pricedown dollar sign appears, there are other little pricedown dollar signs that burst across the screen.
  • On September 20, 2010, the opening logo is similar to the previous one, except when the Pricedown sign forms itself, it shines. The text actually comes in first, followed by the red and orange sections of the logo.
  • On September 19, 2011, the opening logo is similar to the other two versions, except the big wheel appears at the bottom on a blue square background with a light ring of chasing bulbs. The wheel stops at 40 followed by the word years to form "40 Years"
  • On September 17, 2012, the opening logo changes slightly. The CGI models of the dice from Let 'Em Roll, Hans, and a Plinko chip all zoom in, followed by the big wheel spinning into the center. Then, the red and orange sections come together followed by the pricedown dollar sign and the text.
  • On September 23, 2013, multiple colors spin around, then the logo is shown. Then, the logo is posted on the big door, and once the doors open, the logo zooms forward.
  • On October 7, 2013, the opening logo is changed again, but the big wheel spinning into the center from Season 40 is reintroduced, followed by the red and orange sections and the text coming together. Just like the previous logo, when the big doors open, the logo zooms forward.
  • From September 21 to 24, 2015, all of the original opening logos are reintroduced, but are now enhanced in CGI form. After Decades week, the opening logo went back to its normal format.
  • On September 19, 2016, the CGI big wheel spinning in the center was used again, but this time, with lights spinning all around. Then, the number 45 and the word years comes down with the spinner on the 45 while the red and orange sections and the text swoop down and into the center.
  • On September 18, 2017, the opening logo from the previous year was used, except the 45 Years text was eliminated.
  • On September 13, 2021, gold streaks appear, along with still photos of memorable moments from Bob and Drew's era, and then the number 50 appears on the screen, along with the TPIR logo flying into the zero. Then, the 50 is superimposed on the door and fades away before they open.
  • On September 19, 2022, while the gold streaks remain, CGI asterisks and the Big Wheel zoom back to reveal a somewhat smaller version of the orange and red logo.

Host Introductions[]

  • When the show premiered on September 4, 1972, there was no transition effect for the host's introduction.
  • On March 31, 1983, the host's entrance has added transition effects by using a simple circle moving inward toward the center of the screen while a second one move outward towards the edge of the screen.
  • On December 10, 1987, the circle wipes used for the host's entrance have been changed to star wipes.
  • On September 20, 2010, the star wipes used for the host's entrance have been changed to a simple fade wipe.

Audience Seats/Seat Covers[]

  • On September 4, 1972, the audience seats are blue while some of the seats at the very front are red.
  • On September 11, 1972, the words of the show were added but taped out-of-order. The seat covers were colored brown.
  • On August 19, 1975, the seat covers changed from brown to blue.
  • On October 31, 1980, the seat covers changed from blue to green.
  • Between 1984 and 1985, the blue seats get replaced with red seats.
  • On October 15, 2007, the Contestants' Row seat covers changed from green to light blue, while the words of the show were replaced with hexagons.
  • On September 19, 2011, the red seats get reverted back to blue.
  • On November 16, 2020, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, all the audience seats were removed to ensure a socially distanced and safe environment. Instead, a floor was placed over the original location of the audience seats.
  • On September 13, 2021, the studio audience seats returned. However, they are black and have light up podiums in front them. The podiums and seats are socially distanced according to COVID-19 guidelines. Also, audience capacity is limited.

Contestant's Row[]

  • On September 4, 1972, the podiums were colored brown with eggcrate displays. An asterisk flashed when someone gave the closest bid to the retail price of an item.
  • On August 19, 1975, the display colors on the Contestants' Row podiums changed to red, green, orange, and sky-blue from left-to-right with a SportsType font style. The asterisks on the display no longer existed, but were temporarily brought back on September 21, 2015 along with the podiums' border colors reverting back to brown.
  • On May 23, 1977, a $100 bonus was awarded for perfect bids.
  • On October 16, 1981, the colors on the Contestants' Row podiums changed to red, sky-blue, orange and green from left-to-right.
  • On September 14, 1984, the border color changed from green to pink.
  • On October 17, 1985, the border color reverted back to green.
  • On November 10, 1998, the perfect bid bonus permanently increased from $100 to the current $500.
  • On January 30, 2002, the sky-blue display on the Contestants' Row podium changed to dark blue.
  • On January 31, 2003, the orange display on the Contestants' Row podium changed to yellow. The borders of the displays became marbled silver and their interior border was lined with black.
  • On October 15, 2007, the red, yellow, blue, and green displays had a lighter hue.
  • On September 21, 2009, the displays went back to their original hues, except there was a thicker green border around them and now the number displays are in LED form.
  • On September 19, 2011, the displays remain the same, but there is a black border in between the displays.
  • On September 19, 2016, the blue display is a darker color.
  • On November 16, 2020, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, all the contestants row podiums were separated six feet apart from each other and became the same size as the showcase podiums. It had the red, yellow, blue, and green colors, but there was also the price dollar sign in front on each one. Selected contestants were called in from behind the audience set.
  • On September 13, 2021, the contestants row podiums were back in their normal places and are no longer six feet apart.
  • On September 25, 2023, Contestants Row received a complete redesign.

Curtains[]

  • When the show premiered, the curtains behind the audience were a solid yellow.
  • On September 8, 1975, the curtains changed to a colored pattern of red-blue-green-yellow from left to right.
  • On October 23, 1980, the curtain colors changed to red-blue-orange-green from left to right.
  • On October 7, 1986, the order of the audience curtains was reversed, changing the colors to green-orange-blue-red from left to right.
  • On March 17, 1988, the audience curtains were altered so that each one has two sets of curves going down it.
  • On March 23, 1988, a ninth colored curtain has been added behind the audience, so as to completely cover the center wall, each existing curtain has been moved one space to the left for an order of green-orange-blue-red from left-to-right.
  • On September 9, 1991, the curtain colors changed to green-red-blue-orange from left-to-right.
  • On April 18, 1995, the curtains were solid red.
  • On May 4, 1995, the curtain colors changed back to red-blue-orange-green.
  • On October 13, 1997, the curtain colors were replaced with the silver curtains used on The Price is Right Primetime Specials in 1986 after some holes burned in the regular curtains by someone who left the lights behind them turned on over the weekend.
  • On October 21, 1997, the curtain color scheme had no curves running down them. The colors used were gold-blue-blue-silver-silver-blue-blue-gold.
  • On October 29, 1997, the curtain color pattern of green-red-blue-orange returned.
  • On October 24, 2001, the curtain pattern changed to red-green-blue-yellow from left-to-right.
  • On October 15, 2007, the curtain colors changed to pastel blue, yellow and red with strings of lights adorned with Goodson-Todman asterisks and hypocycloid diamonds visible between them.
  • On March 25, 2016, the curtain colors changed to solid blue, slightly brighter than that of the blue curtains used on The Price is Right Primetime Specials in 2004. Two light strips were added around the back of the audience.

Home Base/Turntable[]

  • On September 4, 1972, the Turntable carpet was orange, the stationary walls were brown, orange and yellow, while the turning panel had a pattern of dots on the front side and a hexagon pattern on the game side and the wall borders were brown.
  • On September 18, 1972, the two left-hand stationary Turntable walls were brown, pink, black, orange and yellow from outside to inside, while the wall borders had chase lights going around them.
  • On March 27, 1975, the Turntable carpet turned from orange to green.
  • On April 2, 1975, the Turntable wall borders became green.
  • On August 19, 1975, the stationary panels of the Turntable wall changed to purple surrounding orange, while the turning panel gained a solid red pattern on the front and gained a dotted pattern on the game side on the back.
  • On October 23, 1979, the game side of the spinning turntable panel changed to have a series of zigzags colored orange and brown.
  • On November 15, 1982, the panels of the Turntable wall except for the back side of the spinning panel changed to display a purple-red-orange pattern (with fabric padding), while the chase lights were removed. This change didn't take effect until December 27, 1982 because this episode was taped out-of-order.
  • On July 1, 1983, the purple-red-orange pattern was added to replace the backside of the turning panel.
  • On May 27, 1992, the green borders on the Turntable wall changed from green to gold while the turntable carpet changed from green to red.
  • On March 4, 1999, the padded purple-red-orange turntable walls become hard and flat, in addition, "extra" panel of the wall becomes purple and red, it had previously been red and orange.
  • On September 24, 2002, a Hollywood mural was placed over the traditional patterns on the front of the Turntable. The gold borders were brighter and shinier than before, while the traditional pattern of the game side was red, blue, and yellow and the red carpet first introduced on May 27, 1992 and Showcase podiums from Season 30 remained in use. On the back of the turntables, there were the traditional patterns with a color pattern of red, blue, and yellow.
  • On March 7, 2003, the traditional patterns of the Turntable returned with a color pattern of a sparkly pink, light purple, and blue except for the interior panel which remained gold, while the Turntable carpet color changed to blue.
  • On October 15, 2007, the Turntable walls were squared off, except for the upper left corner of the extra panel and the gold wall borders were replaced with thicker green ones similar to that of the door frames. The border extended across the bottom only on the turning panel also contained the show's original logo using the same color scheme as the new version. The interior wall panel once again had a pattern on it which showed the same hypocycloid pattern as on the Big Doors. The lights last seen in 1982 were restored to the interior borders of the turning and center wall panels, but they no longer chase. The carpet was mostly blue, although the middle step in the staircase changed back to green.
  • On September 22, 2008, a square pattern first seen on The Price is Right Primetime Specials in Season 36 replaced the hypocycloid pattern. The color changed from purple to blue. The show's classic logo was discontinued and replaced by a gray pricedown dollar sign.
  • On September 21, 2009, a Big Door-style Turntable wall replaced the square pattern and the turning panel was squared off, which resulted in Check Game being removed from the rotation for the next four years.
  • On September 21, 2015, the square-patterned turntable was replaced by a hexagon pattern, with changeable color schemes and footages (similar to the Video Wall).

Big Doors[]

  • On September 4, 1972, the title for the show had three colors-- orange for "The," red for the pricedown dollar sign and "New" and yellow for "Price," "Is," and "Right." The door frames are brown. There were three colored strips of orange for Door #1, yellow for Door #2 and red for Door #3.
  • On June 26, 1973, the show's title has two colors instead of three. The pricedown dollar sign and "Price" are yellow while "The," "Is," and "Right" are red. "New" gets dropped from the show's title.
  • On August 19, 1975, the door frames change from brown to green and the strips going around them change as well. Door #1 is colored pink, Door #2 is colored orange and Door #3 is colored maroon/burgundy.
  • On May 27, 1992, all the door frame strips become gold.
  • On August 23, 1996, the show's logo on the big doors has a shadow painted behind it and is accompanied by drawings of confetti, balloons and a streamer that has the words "25 Years on CBS" on it, with the purple balloon getting the trademark CBS Eye. These designs carry over to the daytime show beginning September 9, 1996.
  • On September 8, 1997, the text on the big doors changed from "25 Years on CBS" to "26 Years on CBS."
  • On April 9, 1998, the text on the big doors changed from "26 Years on CBS" to "5,000th Show on CBS."
  • On April 10, 1998, the big doors changed again to remove the CBS Eye logo on the balloon and all the other texts leaving the show's logo standing alone. Two additional balloons and the pattern of the confetti were slightly altered and the streamer was smaller.
  • On September 17, 2001, the show's logo on the big doors was shrunk to include "30 Years" logo.
  • On September 24, 2002, the series logo was enlarged from the same location after the end of Season 29. The large doors have been restored with a regular logo surrounded by stars first seen in The Price is Right Salutes and it is also in its red and yellow version, surrounded by stars at the opening. Door frames are still green, but are now shiny.
  • On September 18, 2006, the "35 Years" logo has a green streamer and there aren't any drawings of confetti and the number 35 years logo in a different font. The big doors get a new paint job, they now have a sunburst pattern of every color of the rainbow with five pointed stars and Goodson-Todman asterisks. All three doors are identical.
  • On October 15, 2007, a new Price is Right logo was introduced and there were new paint jobs on the big doors having circles and diamonds on them in the background. Each door had a different color. The doors had four different colors, one door for each color, blue, green, yellow, and orange. Also, the curvy border was removed.
  • On September 22, 2008, the doors from the Season 36 MDS were used, which consisted of the newer TPIR logo with a black border and lights around it, and a background of squares. Each door still had one color, still under blue, green, yellow, and orange.
  • On September 4, 2012, the logo on the doors became smaller, but still had the same square background.
  • On September 22, 2014, the curvy border was reintroduced, but there were no changes to the logo. Also, the doors light up.
  • On September 13, 2021, the logo on the big doors changes to a number 50 with The Price is Right logo on the number zero. The blue door now has a darker hue.
  • On September 19, 2022, the new logo is used on the big doors.

Giant Price Tag[]

  • On September 4, 1972, the giant price tag was white with a brown border which displays the show's logo. There is a black circle on the left side which represents a hole that a thread would be put through. On the first show only, curtains are on either side of it.
  • On August 19, 1975, the giant price tag border changes from brown to green.
  • On February 25, 1985, the giant price tag has a golden three-dimensional look of the show's logo set at an angle against a starry background with its shadow appearing beneath it on a gray, tiled floor. A golden ball near the left edge of the tag, in the spot where the original giant price tag's "hole" had been.
  • On October 25, 1990, the third incarnation of the giant price tag premiered. The tag is a marbled green with a yellow knot where the so-called "hole" on the original tag was. It's in a yellow alternate font version of the show's logo and yellow border.
  • On October 15, 2007, the fourth and most recent incarnation of the giant price tag premiered. The tag has the hypocycloid diamond design used on Door #3.

Showcase Showdown[]

  • On September 8, 1975, the Showcase Showdown was introduced. It had a rainbow wheel with multiples of $0.05 all the way to $1.00.
  • On November 3, 1975, the Showcase Showdown introduced the big wheel with the same number order. There was a weak-sounding beep or blip when the wheel spun around for the first few years. The wall was colored gold.
  • On January 28, 1976, the split-screen arrow graphic premiered.
  • On December 14, 1977, a red wall was painted on the big wheel.
  • On November 29, 1978, the green sections for 5 and 15 (for the bonus spin when $1.00 is spun) were added.
  • On February 20, 1979, the pink pricedown dollar signs have been added to the walls of the big wheel.
  • On April 24, 1980, the normal big wheel beeps were introduced.
  • On April 22, 1981, a red circle-shaped carpet is added in front of the wheel for spinners to stand on.
  • On March 23, 1988, the big wheel had gold Super Ball!-style dollar signs to replace the pink pricedown dollar signs.
  • On May 7, 1993, a red carpet was laid down in front of the big wheel.
  • On March 28, 2000, a gold-trimmed border was added on the red carpet with an asterisk.
  • On September 22, 2008, the big wheel had its lights, space separators and split-screen separator in silver and the numbers in a slightly different font. The borders were redone with an orange version of the Turntable wall, complete with a silver dollar sign (albeit studded, not flat) on each side. The scoreboard is now attached to the wall itself instead of being at the top of a post. A new, rectangular Showcase Showdown carpet is introduced, with red and orange squares around the edges and an orange Goodson-Todman asterisk under the scoreboard.
  • On September 13, 2021, the walls and borders were gold, which was used in 1975 when the Big Wheel premiered.
  • On September 19, 2022, the walls became red (last used in 1977) and borders reverted to silver.

Showcase[]

  • On September 4, 1972, the showcase podiums were colored red for the Runner-Up and yellow for the Top Winner. The showcase podiums had a brown border around them. The showcase podiums had flip cards placed on them after the commercial, for the remainder of the week, the standard price reveal method with Bob reading the actual retail prices from small price tags is used and a nameplate with a description of the showcase is placed on each podium during the commercial.
  • On September 28, 1972, the blank nameplates on the showcase podiums changed to yellow on the red podium and pink on the yellow podium, while the descriptive cards changed from brown to orange.
  • On April 15, 1974, black asterisks were added to the showcase podiums.
  • On April 18, 1974, the double showcase rule was introduced. Contestants who were less than $100 could win both showcases. The words "Double Showcase Winner" were written in a "Tonight" font style.
  • On May 13, 1975, the brown portions of the showcase podiums changed to green and their nameplates have both become orange. The Top Winner uses the yellow podium.
  • On August 19, 1975, the showcase podiums are both white with a green asterisk for the Top Winner and a red asterisk for the Runner-Up.
  • On September 8, 1975, after the players in the showcase gave a bid on their own showcase, there was no commercial break and the showcase round continued with the showcase reveal.
  • On November 26, 1975, the Top Winner stood behind the red asterisk and the Runner-Up stood behind the green asterisk.
  • On November 30, 1979, the commercial break after the Showcase bidding permanently returned.
  • On December 29, 1982, the asterisks changed from red to purple for the Top Winner and from green to orange for the Runner-Up.
  • On September 10, 1984, the Showcase podiums had a gold trapezoid shape surrounded by golden borders and they contain a golden outline of a Goodson-Todman asterisk. They also slanted inward and the nameplate holders were purple and orange, with the word "showcase" written on it. The prize name signs are black on yellow when they do a showcase ARP reveal.
  • On September 21, 1998, contestants who are within $250 or less can now win both showcases.
  • On January 8, 1999, any player who wins the showcase and has a total of over $35,000 in prizes including cash if possible, the complete total of the showcase winner flashes. This will happen to Double Showcase Winners as well.
  • On September 24, 2001, the third Showcase podium generation premiered with the word "showcase" written in a different font and the interior of the gold rim that surrounds the word "showcase" is now purple and orange.
  • On October 2, 2002, the Tonight font style was used for the last time.
  • On October 29, 2002, a new font style for double showcase winners was introduced that had stars surrounding the font itself.
  • On March 10, 2003, the Showcase podiums get different colors to match the Turntable setup. A pink podium was used for Runner-Up players and a blue podium was used for Top Winning players.
  • On February 20, 2004, the Showcase podiums have displays on top and the showcase description below it. The yellow placards are written in a different font.
  • On October 15, 2007, the Showcase podiums change their colors to green. There are also yellow diamonds on the placards.
  • In Season 37, a new font style for the double showcase winners was introduced. Similar to the previous one from 2002 to 2008, this version had asterisks with the square background with a different text font.
  • In Season 38, the font remained the same for the double showcase winners, but it was computer generated. The words "DOUBLE SHOWCASE WINNER" popped out, followed by CGI fireworks. Afterwards, the words flew out.
  • In Season 41, the font style and animations remained the same, but the CGI fireworks were replaced by CGI firecrackers that shot upward.
  • On September 21, 2009, the Showcase podiums remain their green colors, but now there is a computer-like LED border on both the score screen and the Showcase screen with a yellow color. Now, whenever a contestant overbids, the screen changes to red. Also, there are silver borders on the podium with a Pricedown dollar sign in the center.
  • On September 23, 2013, the Showcase podiums remain green, but now the LED screens are a darker blue color. There is also a light blue border light around the placard. Also, the asterisk flowers are reintroduced with a purple color.
